I'm sure cold water fish were soothing to watch too Byatt. Sorry that I had that wrong slightly:o

I suspect as you say, pets like a lizard are fascinating and you do have more contact.

Pets at Home were very helpful. What DS really really wants is a Bearded Dragon but he can't have one, as they grow too big and need too big a tank. It's a shame as they are much more child-friendly in the sense that they are more lively and visible. Geckos are nocturnal and hide in the day. But anyway, that's impossible. With both the geckos and the fish, I would need to set up the tank a few days before so I think I'm going to take DS there after school and see what happens. It's a shame they have no leopard geckos at the moment so he can't look at them, and the crested geckos are hiding. The Bearded Dragons are all out sunning themselves! But they have plenty of coldwater fish to choose from and a good stock of cloud fish and another small fish, both of which are labelled as good for beginners (the goldfish weren't).
I saw the live crickets, and they were ewwww, but DS would do that. I'll be sure to make him look at them and make sure he could do it.
I also went to Argos where they are running a promotion on gift cards for other stores, 2 * £20 ones for £30, or 2 * £10 ones for £15. Worth it if you have birthdays etc coming up or you're planning to see a film in Cineworld. Sadly iTunes aren't included this time.

  • (((kidkat))), sorry to hear your news.

Mr VP's interview has now been moved to next week.

:j I got the job :j, just need to get the official letter than I can start my 1 month notice.
I am playing all of the right notes just not necessarily in the right order :D.
  • Congratulations Mrs VP - that sounds like an excellent excuse for chocolate brownies and mugs of tea all round!

    Well done you:T
  • Congratulations on the job Mrs VP.

The talk of geckos is interesting. Just don't mix it with a cat. I mention this as I was in the vets just before Christmas. There was a family with three young boys in the waiting area. Mum was in with the vet and the poorly gecko (although it may have been some species of lizard, I'm not sure). Apparently the boys had been given the gecko for Christmas (early), taken it out to play with (although I'm not entirely sure how you play with a gecko) and the cat joined in. Gecko didn't leave the vets ...

I was just a little bit cross as they were saying the cat would have to go, which seemed harsh as the cat was only doing what they do. Then again, I was there with one of my cats so my sympathies would lean that way!

Managed to get to work today. We have had loads of snow since Thursday night. Was told to stay home (nice boss, even if he is pretty grumpy!) on Friday and Monday. It cleared a bit so went to work Tuesday, more snow arrived so came home early and was off again Wednesday. I just hope we get paid even though we didn't work, else the budget will implode. The most serious problem with it was the severe lack of chocolate in the house. I don't know how that happened but it has been a long week without it. Hopefully I will get to the shops at the weekend to stock up again.

I hope everyone is keeping warm and as well as they can be.

    Congratulations Mrs VP!
Don't worry Rosie, the gecko is safe, as a) we don't have a cat and b) he's getting a fish, which was his preference to my great surprise. Couldn't get him interested in the minnows though, he wants an oranda. The lady explained to him in great detail and we're setting the tank up tonight so that it will hopefully be ready on Sunday for a fish or two. I now have an inconsolable DD because she was able to hold a rabbit and she's afraid the one she fell in love with won't be there by the time she's old enough to have one (it won't).

:j Wonderful news! Cuppas and cakes across the nation!

Feel sorry for the family cat being talked about like it was a problem when it went for the gecko. I love moggies dearly but they are small, savage hunters as well as purry furry cuddlies. One of our family cats brought in a common lizard one day, and that was rescued and taken off her; put out doesn't begin to describe the emotion.

I'm beyond tired at the mo and had to go to bed for an hour after coming in from work so won't linger; have a good evening, everybody.
