Kidcat (((hugs))) to you and your family.
I recently went with eldest daughter to buy a goldfish for an established tank. We had to sign a form before we were allowed to buy and they explained that they do not allow you to buy a fish and a tank on the same day. This was at petsathome.
Good luck with the job interview MrsVP. Fingers crossed that it goes well.
Sofa, carpet and underlay plus various boxes and bags of eldest daughters belongings went yesterday. Lots of cleaning of dust giants to be done in their place but i have some space in my garage and hallway. Long may it last (although i sincerely doubt it!)0 -
Morning all
After a very stressy day yesterday I was hoping for a calmer one today. DD1 had the "we have to let you go" talk last night, they're letting go 4 temp members of staff as budgets have been cut, quite understandable. But....the manager was so reluctant to see her go that she's found her a job in another store! DD has to go and meet the manager just to make sure they "get on" but it looks very promising and I'm really pleased that the manager felt so highly of her to take the effort. She's going to try and see the new manager today....fingers crossed please!"Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. C. Field.0 -
Thanks Sevenup that's useful info to know. I had better get the tank first then and set it up before his birthday. I tried to go into Pets at Home this morning but I was too early on the way home from school, I'll pop in later. Need to do it today as the main roads are clear, before we get more snow tomorrow! DH has thrown a slight spanner in the works though saying that it's really a lizard he'd love and perhaps we should get him a gecko. So I'm back at square one really and apologies because I'm sure I've had this conversation before on here. As I understand it leopard geckos are very easy to look after and don't require UV light etc. So I will have a talk with the shop staff today and decide which one would be viable. Of course, DD is now making noises about wanting a pet too, but she needs to wait until she's old enough to take care of whatever it is herself.
It's bin day today and I've seen the truck, but it remains to be seen whether it will get down our road...
Good luck Miss Pooky.0 -
Apart from what you have to feed lizards  I would think it would be much easier to deal with than a fish!!! Cute too. The tank/fish policy sounds very sensible of Pets At Home, because I bet they get no end of people going back and complaining their fish have died when they bung them straight in freezing cold chlorinated water!
I'm making myself a huge fried breakfast nomnomnom. I have some laverbread cakes left over from the market, so it's a tough job but someone has to do it...sigh I'll eat them for breakfast :rotfl: of course I need to use those tomatoes too, and well I just HAVE to have bacon and eggs...
I didn't seem to actually 'do' anything yesterday...must try harder today!

Kate I'm very jealous of your fried breakfast. I am calorie counting and while my Turkish Delight Muller yoghurt was very nice, it's not quite up to bacon and eggs standard.
It's OK DS will definitely do the feeding, and I'm pretty sure one of his friends would be more than happy to look after either a gecko or a fish when we are on holiday, even with crickets etc in the equation! I suspect gecko food would be a lot more expensive though.
I realise I can't expect anyone else to be ecstatic about this but our bins are being emptied right now! I'm amazed the truck made the attempt to come down our road, it's still quite bad. Full marks to the binmen.0 -

You'd be surprised. We only get our 'real' rubbish collected every other week, the alternate week is just recycling. It's called 'everything day' in this house, and I have been known to spring from bed of a Thursdaycrying 'It's Everything Day!' because I love it when the rubbish goes!

I envy that fried breakfast Kate,
I have not been told that I can't have one(or to avoid certain foods)at best just eat smaller portions, so I do occasionally as a treat have a breakfast like that, normally I am very good. I will ask my consultant again(though may dislike/fear what I hear)if I am doing ok and if he is happy with what I am having dietwise.
And after what Purell Queen mentioned whether I should perhaps soak certain items high in potassium in water to take some of that out of the vegetables before cooking and possibly double boil some items such as potatoes. Also if I should avoid certain items.
I do eat fish, chicken, turkey, vegetables and fruit which are mainly ok. But keep the protein to small amounts.
I don't eat much chocolate, red meat or drink much alcohol, milk and my coffee/tea is very weak. Not much diary stuff, if at all...and the restrictions of how little some are allowed to drink scares me. I am on water tablets but to avoid side effects(gout)I am taking less of them but the water retention does not seem to have increased.
Yet even with such medical problems you are supposed to still get some protein and potassium into the body.
And I don't add salt and sugar really at all...I've never really been talked to much about this in all the 16 years I have had my illness and certainly not with a dietician.
I will ask about the vitamins/mineral suppliments(I don't take a lot and have always been careful anyhow)
I was quite shocked to hear of the abuse being given by patients and about the stories regarding eating takeaways etc...especially whilst in hospital and on dialyisis.
Right enough about me and my medical problems, it came up yesterday and hopefully won't again unless something goes wrong but its good to hear from others and get some general advice/support. I really do appreciate it. I promise not to go on and on about it.
Thinking of Kidcat today, that is so sad. I feel for those who have to/will face these scenarios, I did even without it happening to my parents and I have been spared it happening to children or a partner but I know that is another difficult situation many face.
A fish or a Gecko, such a choice...I always quite fancied an aquirum with tropical fish as Byatt had myself, never got around to having one though.
I guess its no different to some things Humans eat that could be seen dubious but I would be put off having a lizard because of what you have to feed them, especially if the food was alive.
Don't know if this will help Possession...it seems a good guide.

Sorry about the house Softstuff, it wasn't to be but something else may be and it has sown the seed to consider a possible change."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

OMG I wish I hadn't read that  even worse that I thought!
I couldn't do that! I was the woman that freaked out when the angel fish ate the baby guppies remember!

Possession, Pets@home are really good about pet welfare from the smallest to the biggest. My local one have people who are passionate about animals and always willing to help. Welfare is a top priority. I would prefer the Gecko myself, you do get attached to fish no doubt and they are more intelligent than given credit for, but having something to handle and see respond is I think better for a child. Plus it's what he wants. I am sure you will get lots of great advice.
I didn't have tropicals Popperwell, just cold water fish, tropicals are a very expensive hobby
Kidcat, so sorry about the news regarding your uncle.0 -
Kate, I could manage the usual pets(Dogs, cats and "Fluffy" Bunnies)but that would be it for me...:rotfl:
I never get good news in the mail so when I hear a letter drop on the mat I brace myself. I thought as I had signed up to a deal with NPower to freeze the energy prices until the end of October 13 I would be safe. They have written to tell me their prices are going up at the end of March:eek::mad:
They are blaiming Government policies and tax increases. I'm amazed that they can do that. They predict what I will use electric wise but as yet cannot predict what I will pay for the gas.
They tell me I can save £175 annually if my loft is insulated(it is)and I also have cavity wall insulation too. I also have most electric items switched off 24/7 so I am often quite surprised how much my electric costs already.
Really the only thing that is on all the time is the fridge/freezer and the motor is not running all the time and it is a newish model. If they keep raising prices who will notice savings from insulation or energy saving lightbulbs?
I wonder if I have the right to change companies or will be caught out again if others pull a similar trick. Also if I move before the end of my agreed contract with them I incur penalty charges."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson
