Oh dear, the buses aren't running to DH's work now, which means I'm not keen to drive as my route is worse. Looks like he has a long walk ...

    Happy birthday ladies!

I may be older than most on here(so the name is probably appropriate)but we always need our "Mam's" and to be looked after however old we are. Well we do when we are fortunate to have that special relationship. Thanks Kezlou...

I know Mum would have been telling me to tidy myself up in recent weeks(it ties in with the thread on shaving)I allowed my beard to grow for three weeks, :eek:then on Wednesday I got rid of it, kept the moustache, then yesterday I got rid of that!:p

If I use the timer on my heating system it comes on twice and the least you can put it on in total in 24 hours is two periods lasting 4 hours...

Good job I don't pay too much attention to my calorie intake and yet when hungry as I only have about 400 remaining for today but I think I may have bacon, eggs, mushrooms, tomato, baked beans and fried bread and maybe have something afterwards:)

I nearly threw some olive oil out that had gone cloudy but luckily read the lable and it says it is still ok...I tend to grill or if I do fry I use the minimum and always use olive oil or some kind of vegetable oil.

SQ - can't see why pusscat couldn't have a jumper to warm his old bones. Dogs have them & he won't know if he looks a bit comical - he'd rather be comfy - I think its a lovely idea ;)
Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle
  • Please, can someone tell me where I've stashed my wellies?!

We have snow, the boss has said it's not safe to go to work (that means, not safe for him as I live at the other end of the village from where I work today so could walk). So, I'm home but would really like to go for just a little tramp round in the snow (I love snow - when I don't have to drive in it), but can't find my wellies.

I popped in T£sco yesterday for a milk/cat food top up (in case of snow), and it was heaving. I was lucky I was able to go when I did (having been sent home from my other job as the heating had broken down). I expect the shelves would have been cleared by the evening.

I hope everyone is keeping warm and that those who are travelling return home safely.

Pops my mum passed away 30 years ago on february 27th 1983. My brothers and i were all young, ranging from almost 10yrs down to 14 months. We were then raised by our maternal grandmother.
Saving queen i have been known to put t-shirts on our cat and our poor dog is regularly dressed in the childrens pjamas, jumpers, socks, coats - whatever takes the childs fancy at the time. Good job Pixie is very good natured:p.
My local lidl was okay this morning - not too crowded but more people arrived as i wandered around. Plenty of milk and bread but i suspect that wont be for long. I got 2x4pints of milk and 2 loaves of bread. That should take me over the weekend nicely.

Its never easy Sevenup...I supspect I'll still be feeling as I do if I am 95...but with little family and though no one knows if you are destined to meet someone special. I think my demise will be attended by few if any...I am though I think coming through the other side so as to speak.

Honestly I am not know for being miserable.

I think that I should shop now whilst there is no more snow and it is not dark but keep wondering if I leave it a bit longer will there be more reuctions...

:bdaycake:Happy belated Birthday SQ and Happy Birthday Stiltwalker.:bdaycake:

We have had blazing sunshine all morning here, but snow is forecast for later today.:(
My DH is at work until midnight tonight (public transport worker) I will be very unsettled until he is home. It's an odd thing, I get quite agitated inside until all my DD's and their OH's are home safe when the weather is like this. I've known it take them four hours to do a half hour journey in the snow.:(
Still they all have full freezers, and are capable people in their own right, it's just my clucky mother hen head turning in circles whilst my body stands still. IYKWIM :rotfl:

Popperwell:- My DH's Mam always said he looked scruffy and unwashed if he grew a beard.

Ham broth is ready for the weekend to fill the large gaps our stomachs have in cold weather. I like to make it ahead because it tastes better the day after I make it, I think it's to do with the lentils setting. :)

Hope everyone is ok today, don't be going out if you don't have to.

Happy Birthday Stiltwalker - I hope you have had a lovely day:)

We had only a light sprinkling of snow first thing but as we left for school it started to get heavy, I dropped DD18, DS8 and DS14 off leaving DD6 at home with OH. Had a breakfast meeting very close to DS14 unit but got a call at 11 to collect him. By that time the roads were really bad, whilst picking up DS14 got a call to collect DS8 before 1pm.
So on my way to collect Ds8 I popped into Asda topped up on some bits, and bought DD18 some new wellies then headed to collect DS8.
AT that point I decided that I was collecting DD18 too- she had finished the exam and roads were so bad I didnt see the point in her sitting about until three for her last lesson - and I figured they were likely to close anyway.

The two big high schools have remained open but all the primaries are closed - buses are rumoured to be going off this afternoon so goodness knows how people will get home.

We are all stocked up and happy not to go out for a few days if need be - although my mum wants to go hospital visiting tonight! I have said I dont think I will be going - if I fell now I would be devastated.

Shops were incredibly busy and sledges were flying off the shelves, we arrived in Mr A and there was a pallet of sledges - when we left there were six left.

Well snowing here, but lightly about 3/4 inch accumulated so far. Spent an amusing 15 minutes or so watching 7 men with 4 show shovels and a lorry trying to work out how to reverse it straight back onto the road, given what they ended up doing was starting it up, putting it in reverse and giving it a go I had assumed it was "stuck" but for the life of me couldn't work out how. Turns out someone had done an "'elf and sayfety" risk assessment and decided it would not move so clearly lots of blokes standing around brandishing shovels was going to make a difference!
T0sco was (apparently) heaving and food was vanishing as if locusts were in the place. every 4x4 in the world is out coz it's snowing plus no snow chains or snow socks in Hellfrauds or other places.
Good for a giggle if nothing else

It has been sunny here too.

I really appreciate the bus drivers and always have a pleasant word for them. And I usually get a similar response back...the problem as you know only too well the poor service due to cutbacks. And I suppose sometimes the price of fares but that isn't their fault.

    I see that Mum's are similar then...:rotfl:

That sounds lovely...I may get back into making my own and use up meat and veg once normally in the house. I finish off all the soup in the cupboards. TBH a HM soup is only a fancy stew/casserole as I do in a slow cooker...
