Not doing so bad and thanks Bluebag. Much improved. I have gone in the end for a small salad(just iceberg lettice, tomato, pork pie and spring onions...an apple pie yogurt. Cup of milky coffee.

Listening to Bill Kenwright's music programme on Radio 2(Mum would've enjoyed it)but I'm listening:)and it is not making me too sad just bringing back nice memories...I like lots of music but I think I prefer music prior the 1970's and more what I call "Easy" listening and not always what was in the charts...if money was no object what a music collection I would have...I'd be downloading so much from the internet music sites...

I've just rearranged my freezer and so I don't lose the more expensive items by them going past their dates moving them from the fridge to the freezer. I have had to let some things go(but I chose what is the least important and costly)so I have let half a dozen Aunt Bessie Yorkshires go, some fish fingers, some rice.

It looks like I am having chicken probably tomorrow for dinner or salad/sandwiches as that has now gone into the fridge to defrost. So my Christmas meal looks as though it is now Boxing Day. I'll probably use it the next day as well. It is not a roast but a packet of chicken pieces.

It seems milder and not so cold...I always know if my hands are cold. And they're not.

An Exciting Christmas Day :p It seems very quiet around here but there a few extra cars so I guess some are having a family time and perhaps having the kind of Christmas it is supposed to be.

Hey, I did watch two contrasting programmes over the festive season(still haven't seen the original Snowman)but watched the New Snowman and The Snow Dog and Mrs Browns Boys...

Good to hear that your Christmas is going well.

    7 Week Wonder,
The older I get that sounds like my kind of Christmas...glad you are enjoying what sounds like a stress free day. I don't ever remember Christmas ever being stressful...perhaps its different if you are a parent;)

Many overspend at this time of year anyhow...I guess a Christmas meal is mainly like a slightly better Sunday Dinner.

I don't believe that food goes off immediately but I am wondering if I dare use some unopened packets of meat I have(unopened)sliced pork and turkey, one dated 21 December and the other 22 December...is it worth the risk. I'd rather lose the money value than be ill...I know they always say best before you can risk.

Dont think id risk eating the meats out of date, to me its not worth the risk of food poisoning ........................

I dont like this wet, damp, miserable weather weve have been having, ive lit my fire and its very cheery indeed, you dont need company when the fire is a light, last night I turned the tv off and watched and listened to the flames an the wood crackling away...

I did also watch Mrs Brown, , about the only prog worth watching..........

Had good roast turkey for dinner at one, too full to eat tea, my sons MIL cooked for us, it made a change, but lovely to come home and sit by the fire love being at home most ... hubby tucked up in bed watching Dr Who.....................

Hope youve all had a good xmas day and keep warm and happy...sheila

    Happy Christmas toughies!

Glad to hear so many people are having a good Christmas so far. I feel much better now , the horrible fluey cold is on its way out.

I've had a lovely day, spent the morning with my elderly parents who are in great spirits this year.

Mum's always been very easy to please present-wise but she was delighted with the bits and pieces I'd found for her, and even grumpy old dad's face lit up with a lovely smile when he opened his hamper with lots of stuff he loves. That was so good to see, as the past two years have been hell for him.

Mum got me a beautiful floaty scarf and some pretty jams/marmalades, and God bless both of them for gifting me some money I desperately need.

I got home mid afternoon and curled up with the telly, the cat and the lappy (and lots of lovely stuff to eat :D) - life is good.

The weather's a bit of a damp squib, not very seasonal at all - however, a bit of blessing counting is in order, because at least the heating's not getting too much of a bashing

I missed out on visiting other friends and family because of my cold, but will be catching up in a few days' time.

Hope everyone has a lovely evening, bless you all for sharing your ups and downs through the year.

JPS, so happy that you are feeling better and having a day that seems simple but special.

I have heard it said that as we get older for what ever the reasons the older and what older people seem to like as their luxury if possible is nice food. And I find though I eat less it is true of me so I can appreciate your Mum enjoying the jams and your dad his hamper...often simple is best. Often some food is too expensive so to have it given to you probably makes it even more special.

Thanks Popperwell. It meant a lot to see dad light up like that, he's been to hell and back over the last two years, and hasn't been able to enjoy food a lot of the time.

There were a few little treats in there that aren't by any means expensive or exotic, but I knew he loved them and hadn't got any in. I think that meant a lot to him too, that I had thought about what he liked.

I'm glad you're having more good days than bad, and hope things are on the up for you now.

Trouble is its only 6.45 now and it feels like 9, hope I stay awake.......

I do find by this time of day when youve lost loved ones that it comes back to you, obviously it will do but christmas dont make it easy...............Never mind there are loads of people feeling the same........

I was going to go to the "Next" sale tomorrow, but the thought of having the energy at 4 am just dont do it for me, all the good bargains will be gone in the first few hours I expect...............sheila

    Very true Sheila.
So many are feeling as you suggest or will sooner or later. Not meant glibly but "That's Life!" My own Dr suggeted there is no right or wrong way or timelimit how you come to terms with the loss of someone and he virtually admitted things are never the same again.

And yes certain times of the year will punctuate those times be it Christmas perhaps a Birthday. Just as perhaps a piece of music does.

Well, we made it didn't we. Glad to hear about all the lovely things you have done today.
I've had an interesting time. I was just settling down yesterday with my pastry making stuff so that I could make mince pies while listening to the Carol Service from King's College when the phone went. It was Waitrose, who had lots of vegetables left and wanted us to have them for Open Arms. Mince pies were abandoned and I shunted myself off to Waitrose.
Bless her. The lovely manager had crates of potatoes, carrots, parsnips, sprouts, brocolli, cauliflowers and chestnuts. I filled the car up but had to leave 5 times as much behind. Then I had to find somewhere to store it all. I finally finished the mince pies just after midnight.

Today I worked from 8.30am in the church kitchen and we had a lovely lunch with lots of old and lonely people. Then at 5 we had the meal for the homeless which was just amazing. One very drunk rough sleeper was determined to marry me. I think, after careful consideration, I will probably not!

Lurched home at 8.00pm aching in places where I didn't even know I had places, but feeling on a high. There is nothing as wonderful as knowing that you've made a difference in peoples lives. I get far more out of it than our customers.

But tomorrow I'm doing absolutely nothing.

    Love you,

    x
