Morning all
I normally don't let the news get to me (call me hard hearted but I find it best to just ignore it) but the situation in America has shocked and stunned me. How dreadfully sad for those involved who've lost children and loved ones and for those children who've witnessed such an violent and evil attack. My heart really goes out to them.
Just dropped off to sleep last night when DD1 called out that the kittens had a pigeon in the house. Just what you want, the house was spotless for today's family gathering and I had to spend another half hour hoovering and washing floors....didn't put me in the best of minds. However this morning 4/5 cats arrived on the bed at the same time, purry and cuddly and loving.....got up to feed them to find fluffy kitten in the pet food cupboard.....she's learnt how to open the door to get in but is a bit to daft to work out how to get out!
To top it all off the parrot is trying to lay an egg so she's all grumpy and screams when anyone goes near her cage......it's like living in an ark!"Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. C. Field.0 -
'Parrot is trying to lay an egg' OMG! how can you tell? Images of Parrot levels of concentration filling my head now. Pooky That's so funny! :rotfl:
Stiltwalker:- That's lovely, I bet you were so proud.:)
I think many of us hugged our little ones a bit tighter last night.
DH and I talked last night about Dunblane and the change in the gun laws that our country had after that tragedy. It would be helpful to know if there had been any change in gun usage since hand guns were banned.
It would be very hard for the USA to change their gun laws. Not least because 'bearing arms' is one of the rules in their Constitution. It may be that individual states can bring more gun control laws in, but it's a very divisive issue at the best of times.
Ironically, I read recently that applications for gun licences had increased recently because many were shooting game to supplement their food stocks in these difficult recession times.
I think President Obama's 'heartbroken' is the right word to use regarding the deaths of the children and their teachers.
I decided to keep a candle lit today. There is nothing I can physically do to help these poor families, all I can do is send my thoughts and prayers. I appreciate that I am so lucky that my family is safe and well.Give us the strength to encounter that which is to come, that we may be brave in peril, constant in tribulation, temparate in wrath, and in all changes of fortune, and down to the gates of death, loyal and loving to one another.”0 -

Good luck for the move fuddle. And congrats on your dd sw.
Love to all busy day today xmas card posting ect it always takes ages when the people are in coffee and mince pies its hard workI have dyslexia so I apologize for my spelling and grammar0 -
I think a few of us have candles lit meme. I don't watch tv and I don't get newspapers but some things you just can't avoid. It's bringing back memories of Dunblane.
Ginny pet, if you can make sweeties then I really think its time yer aunty Mard popped doon for a wee (extended) visit.... clear the shed! incoming aunty!
To lift our spirits I read a fabulous (sad lol) story on a prepper site.. guy thought he'd fiddle with his harpoon gun, it went off in his hands, and he shot the livingroom radiator. Hot black oily water splatted all over the carpet & walls and then his heating died. And in between gales of laughter all the forum could do was tell him it was an illegal kill as it's not radiator hunting season :rotfl::rotfl: One guy actually went round to help but all he could do was giggle0 -

Good morning everyone,
Stiltwalker - it was lovely to log on and read your news about your daughter: definitely a ray of light in an otherwise pretty grim day.
Fuddle: GOOD LUCK with the move - hope we can hear from you soon how it all went.
Feeling slightly out of sorts here, which is not good as we have a large list of tasks to do over the weekend. Never mind, hopefully it is nothing several cups of tea and a large bowl of porridge won't cure. Then tonight we're off to a friend's birthday ceilidh: hopefully a chance for OH to catch up with some pals he hasn't seen for a long time.
Have a good day everyone.0 -
Morning all
WEll done, Miss Stiltwalker.:j
I'm feeling out of sorts too. Too much to do, too little time, I think.
Gotta go to a family party today. I could do without it - it's an hour and a half's drive away and, tho I like all the family individually, they don't really go together very well. It is OH's family and BIL doesn't get on with other SIL, MIL will be fussing, niece will be being moody and nephew will be naughty. My two will be suffering in martyrish silence praying for the day when they are old enough to get out of it as older niece and nephew have now done. SIL's house will be a tip and filthy which MIL will be making comments about. Families at christmas eh - such funI have now done about half the shopping, I have a big pile of marking and my own house is a tip (though not filthy!)
Good luck fuddle
Have a nice day allI wanna be in the room where it happens0 -

Saving every single penny.

Stiltwalker your daughter sounds like a little star, you could not have received a better gift at this time of year. It just goes to show that you can not buy the most precious things in life.
When DD2 was born on a bank holiday weekend, after all of the doctors on call having prodded and poked her for 2 days because word got around that a child had been born with a rare genetic condition we were told they they did not know if she would walk but to just take her home and wait and see what happened. That was all it took to ensure that we did everything in our power to give her the best care and therapy we could right from day 1. DD2 is now 16, studying at college and after stopping competing for the local athletics club now trains and coaches there. A crystal ball would have prevented a lot of anguish along the way but looking back the journey has been one that I am proud to have been able to help her with.
I too will keep a candle lit today for those poor parents in America.I am playing all of the right notes just not necessarily in the right order.

stiltwalker thank you for sharing your wonderful news.
I have to admit the news has hit me very badly one report says that the shooter was aspergers/autistic and it has really hit me hard. So hearing such lovely news and success has helped lift me a little.
I have definitely caught a bug and so am feeling bleurgh, got up to find whole house destroyed after leaving OH to his own devices yesterday and it was clearly a mistake. Have had to bully the eldest two into doing some jobs but as DS14 is in his usual Christmas morose mood its hard.
DD18 apparently received a Uni offer from her first choice on Thurs, I say apparently as she never told me, she put it on facebook and that is how I found out, I have got very upset by it did try to tell her, but she went off in a huge sulk and is now ignoring me!
I wonder at what point in her upbringing did I teach her it was ok to trample all over someones feelings then act hard done to.
Its raining here and I have no plans to go out at all, I couldnt even if I felt inclined so a quiet day inside I think.0
