Fuddle - when we bought our house the smokeless thing was included in our survey, we met the solicitor to sign the documents to exchange and she explained all the bits to us and mentioned it in passing. I made her go back over it as I know that I want a woodburner one day too.

Thanks all. Do you mean it's not safe to have the fire in the bedroom? I guess it wouldn't be. Stupid me.

I'll remember smokeless fuels, thank you.

Lyn, I will look her up, thank you. I was reading a little last night and shocked to see that everything I do to celebrate Christmas comes from The Winter Solstice celebrations of the early Pagans. I'm very confused now. I happen to like the Pagan way of celebrating life and light. It makes complete sense to me.

Fuddle, I grew up with coal fires, and in the mid 90s moved into a house with no heating but fire places in all the rooms. During the worst of winter I regularly had a fire in my bedroom. Providing you follow sensible precautions its no more dangerous than having a coal fire in your living room. Sensible precautions include clean chimney that draws well, not over building the fire and using fire guards. I'd bank the fire at night.

Morning again, gym done and been promised I will ache tomorrow, ended up with a one on one session as no body else turned up - possible due to the weather. If I had to pay for that I could not afford it so worth getting out of the house for. Good for you Jazee -

I don't do the weighing thing, I go by the "gold standard" a pair of trousers I bought in France nearly 10 years ago which every one comments on as being unusual, but if I am "in the zone" my bum gets loads of compliments and the hang of them is just so flattering, if I am not then the tummy bit is tight and the bum just don't look as good as the drape of the material gets all pulled.

Gutters are fine, there was just so much rain it was overflowing! If there was a block there no longer is! So the question arose - whats is making the drip drip drip noise ..... It "appeared" to be from the guttering above the bedroom window which has a conservatory under it. Cue me outside - guttering all OK, back inside now it is not raining, still can hear this drip drip drip drip (by this time I am thinking it is Chinese water torture) so I stand in the living room and I am trying to pin point the source, it is stronger in the corner by the fish tank, cue me up a ladder, it is stronger above the fish tank, then investigate the pump for the fish tank, no its OK. As I am standing thinking "really, why me, I hope this is not the start of a mega bill, we only decorate this room last year" I look at the tank, and the "oh god moving that is going to be a nightmare" thought wanders across the single cell/ We have a bubbling butt to aerate the water, it is not sitting properly so the butt is lifting on a regular basis and the water is escaping from the side ..... sounding very much like a dripping tap. Mystery solved by hand in tank and burying the butt further in the gravel - no more Chinese water torture! Yipppeee!
Now for catch up on all things t'interweb related before I hoof DH out of bed. What shall I cook for lunch - big lunch today as DH is working tonight (OT thank goodness) so need to make sure the veggies are plenty for bubble and squeak tomorrow night (yummy)
Stopped raining at long last, for a short time, the roads are badly flooded in places - think the Council should be out with the drain clearing machines otherwise getting to work tomorrow will be fun indeed! Hope no one else is suffering with the weather's present of rain!

    Snowing in Brackley:eek:
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

Agree Nuatha, coal fires are awesome but you need to know to do it. I've often been shocked at the daft things my husband does with the fire - I was brought up with coal fires in every house in a mining village, he is a townie ;) - It's great when I know better than he does ;):D
But coal isn't cheap now.Like everything else eh!
I'm not strictly pagan but I certainly am not christian. I just like the old ways as the routine seems more in tune with the earth and the seasons, and it makes sense. Whereas for me, the church never did :D

I was thinking the same , wheres brackley??

Had a busy day yesterday, 14 hours at work!! today is only 10 and tomorrow is another 14. WOrkingtime directive, doesnt come into where i work. It is broken nearly everyday. Safety is put at risk, but those that be above dont care - this another reason why im leaving.

Went into the next town on friday to meet DD from work, went into local coop for a cup of t and a natter. OH dad, thier grandad was there. He never soke, hasnt for nearly 8 years to us! and just walked away. I think their nan was in the shop somewhere, but she only speaks when it suits or she requires OH to give some money. Where DD works, she has her hair done so its all thats my grand daughter - just ashame its all show towards other people. Why are some people like that??

Its raining here in lincolnshire, and cold.

Off to do dinner, before i go to put flowers on my dads grave onroute to work. Also have to return another DVD to MOrisons due to the wrong one being out in again. Its a 15 film but they have out an 18 film in!!! Im not happy at all.

Hope everyone has anice day. x

It's smelled like snow here, not that far from Leeds, for days, but not JUST yet, please. Two more days then it can if it likes! :D

It's really cold, overcast and generally dreich here - had to defrost the car before taking DS and his GF to work at 8.

Have spent the whole morning doing car insurance quotes, ferocious amount for me, DH and 20 year old DS! If not for DS, it would only be about £210 fully comp, but well over £1K including him! He has saved his share, so not subsidising him, but still.... :(

    A xo
