morning all well my idea for a nice long lay in and recuperate after yesterday's madness has epically failed. So far this morning I have - done all (yes all) the filing, including HMRC bills logging and sorted by month. Folded and packed away 2 lots of washing (towels and so on that don't need ironing thank goodness!), sorted out the final few documents I wanted to make copies of, investigated where the blinking heck the drip drip drip sound of water was coming from that woke me up in the first place (outside in the pouring rain one of the newly installed gutters looks like there there is a problem with so will have to verify with DH when / if he makes an appearance with the world and then call them tomorrow to come and sort grrrr) fed dog and groomed, sorted out food for today and shopping list, now I am off to the gym for a double session. I have failed to find the operating instructions for the temperature things for the radiators so have left note for DH to go seek in loft (oh won't he be please - NOT)
All I really wanted was a nice long lay in with a lazy start to Sunday. Well that is a fail - but I suppose I have managed to get a load of stuff done, the window hinge WD40-ing I have not done as it is frankly revolting out there and I CBA getting wet just yet - may be after the gym.
Water butts are now full .... wondering if I can get more to get some additional storage, but the problem of space arises .....Start info Dec11

Good morning.
It's very frosty here this morning. So beautiful.
I was up in the early hours of the morning (couldn't get to sleep till around 4.30) and I was shocked at how cold it was in the house.. and this is a house that was heated till 8pm. I can't stress at how much we need to heat our homes, just enough to take the chill away.
Can I ask a question? What was all the smokeless zones about in the 90's? Are people allowed to have open fires these days?
A woodburner is a dream for me when I own my own place but the reality and more cost effective way would be an open fire. Will I be allowed though?
Where that dreaded built in wardrobe is (not talking about it!) there's a patch cemented where the chimney is. There's also some sort of cement on the floor boards in that area so I suspect there once lived an open fire in the bedroom too.
I just find it a travesty to have a house with all the bricks in place for heating of that kind but we're stopped from using it (government/LL)0 -
FUDDLE - You can get smokeless fuel to burn which is acceptable in smokeless zones. Your local council should have a website that tells you what is legal and what isn't when it comes to open fires. I'm sure I have an article in a magazine on Celebrating the Winter Solstice. I'll look it out later on and post any ideas it has that might be of use to you. I know it's by a lady called Glennie Kindred who has written loads of books so it might be worth googling her to see if there is anything on line that's useful. Cheers Lyn xxx.0

Good morning.

The legislation was tidied up with the Clean Air Act 1993.
You can have an open fire in a Smokeless Zone provided you burn authorised smoke free fuel (anthracite being an example). Woodburners have to have a certificate of exemption to be used in SZs - which basically means they are designed to burn seasoned wood without producing smoke.A woodburner is a dream for me when I own my own place but the reality and more cost effective way would be an open fire. Will I be allowed though?

Depending on the age of the property, it may well have had fireplaces in the bedrooms.
Sometimes there are really good reasons behind legislation.0 -
Thanks all. Do you mean it's not safe to have the fire in the bedroom? I guess it wouldn't be. Stupid me.
I'll remember smokeless fuels, thank you.
Lyn, I will look her up, thank you. I was reading a little last night and shocked to see that everything I do to celebrate Christmas comes from The Winter Solstice celebrations of the early Pagans. I'm very confused now. I happen to like the Pagan way of celebrating life and light. It makes complete sense to me.0 -
Pagans are us????? Maybe!!!!! Cheers Lyn xxx.0
