    Fab news Stiltwalker.

Busier than a busy thing from busy town, here at the moment. DH is having far more bad days than good, DD2 is poorly with a stinking cold, DD1 is just being 17 (she's very good at it).

Need to sit and plan a menu for my parents 45th wedding anniversary meal, so difficult when neither Mum or Dad will eat anything classed as "foreign" or anything that contains onions, peppers, garlic, herbs, spices, mince, lamb...(oh and dad can't eat bread).... Add to that my sister and her family are coming and her youngest 2 are autys and have their own requirements and I could be cooking 75 different meals....I'm thinking buffet and I'm thinking simple.....it's just that I'd prefer to be thinking pots of curry and chilli and big stodgy puds. Remind me why I offer to host these things?!

    Well Done Stiltwalker

Market was surprisingly busy and I cleared nearly all my stock. Good, but meant there was nothing instant for tonight's dinner ;) LOL! It was also bloody freezing! I had to have a hot bath to warm up when I got in and I nearly fell asleep in the bath!

Blimey pookie that's a bit of a tall order you've got there for a meal. Only thing I could suggest would be a roast. Everything could be very simply cooked, and you could make a nice stuffing for the people who aren't picky with all the flavour in! :rotfl:

I've firmed up plans with my neighbour/friend for Xmas, she's doing starters and cooking a nice chicken, with Xmas dinner bits, and a slice of tuna for her veggie OH at hers and then we come back to our house for pudding and cheeseboard. All because none of us will leave our dogs alone for hours :) Suits me though as we enjoy their company, and they seem to enjoy ours (even DS)

I've really got to get my bottom in gear this week, as it's our Christmas Fair at work on Sunday, and we are doing the cake stall with some of our Xmas stock, and I'm making Churros to nosh as people wonder about. So this week is fudge, fruit salami, choccies and truffles, and all sorts of nommy things. So do me a favour. If you see me on here... tell me to get back in the kitchen :rotfl:

Spill the beans sweetie, all here to help or just give hugs, if you dont want to that's perfectly fine but between all the users on here someone has probably gone through the same. Thinking of you xx

Aww thanks. It was nothing serious. I'm annoyed that a nice lady I wanted to be friends with and had made every effort to, is !!!!y as hell at me for reasons I can't do anything about. That was the big thing. The straw that broke the camels back, as a bug phobic, was I topped off my day yesterday with a large cockroach in the front room and a millipede/centipedy thing in the bathroom. Today I will be pest spraying for the 6th time this year (not counting the annual professional one arranged by the management that seems as effective as providing pancakes for the bugs).

School deny the incident took place so will be discussing at the meeting tomorrow with the head and ed psych. Its a worry as one of the other boys does tell the same tale so its odds on true.

Good luck dealing with that, though I suspect you don't need it, I've seen how tough and protective you are for your kids, they won't know what's hit em.

    Congratulations Stiltwalker, wonderful news!

Pooky - We had a lot of fussy and elderly coming to my Dads funeral, so we did a nice buffet for the wake. We included a lot of different sliced meats, various salads, buttered bread buns for those who wanted sandwiches, sausage rolls, quiche etc. It went down very well, the sliced meats in particular.

  • Stiltwalker congratulations. Is sounds like it is all going well.

Pookey I would go with the buffet as well. I am hosting a small family get together for eight at teatime on Christmas day and between two of them the are allergic or cannot tolerate a whole raft of different foods. I have opted for a buffet and then at least they can pick and choose around their preferences.

I know it can be a difficult time for many people but I love the build up to Christmas, making the mince pies, giving the Christmas cake a tipple or two to keep it moist. I love the twinkling lights, the decorations, the smells and making HM gifts fro friends and family. Best of all DD1 will be back from uni for three weeks.
I am playing all of the right notes just not necessarily in the right order :D.

  • Congratulations Stiltwalker from a former OU student. It brings back memories - knowing the results were due and almost getting repetative stress injuries pressing "refresh" on the results page!

Another dad story (sorry - there aren't that many!): he was studying his final module for his degree when he died last year. I emailed the OU - really only to say please don't fail him, mark him down as unable to sit the exam or something. I got a lovely email back, the final result of which was that this summer I was able to graduate not only on my own behalf, but also on behalf of dad too. I love the Open University:T

    Evening all :)

    Well done stiltwalker :T

kidcat I hope that the school pulls it's finger out and sorts everything and that your DD's interview goes well :)

katieowl that lot sounds wonderful. I agree with Softstuff, I'd be bringing Dotty the Trolley with me if I was closer.

I am slowly getting over my bug, I'm on day 17 now and the cough is finally starting to ease off. DH is off work next week and as we were ill for his last week off, I have high hopes for this one. I only have one present left to get and any others will be bonus ones.

I am trying to feel more Christmassy and have made my first batch of mince pies and two batches of shortbread today. Adding in fruit flakes does work well, but next time I would use more of them. It looks very pretty too with the pink speckles.

I finished the right front of the cardi I'm knitting today at knit and natter, so only the sleeves and edging to go. I'm hoping that I can get it done before the 23rd and then I can get my Mom and Auntie Di to help me sew it together. Then I just have to buy something to go with it.

I'm now going to go and try to separate DH from the pinball game he is playing on the pc....wish me luck.

    Take care (((((((((((((((((hugs)))))))))))))))))))
