Sunshine,
I am so sorry...it seems so little to say but I am thinking of you. I hope that you can find your way through this difficult time. Probably made much worse because you received good news intially."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

Good point about whether you have access to a cooker etc...Kate.
A bag of spuds or fresh veg could be an option if it is given out quickly...I may have to ask. I eat cereal so that can be a good option.
And I guess another could be tinned meat/fish that could go into a sandwich etc..."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

JKJ there are some great links to food questions I am so happy if that helped.
Talking of meals, mine are so simple(but hopefully good)and my Christmas will be very cheap...just annoyed that my freezer is so full(well that's good really)I cannot defrost it to free my yellow stickered turkey which has frozen to the shelf and it is part of the freezer that is not removeable. So perhaps I will have to rethink which meat I have for Christmas.
I may just have some sliced turkey on the day. Fresh veg or frozen isn't too expensive and the portions I eat last ages..."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

Hi everyone, I hope it's ok to join in here? I'm a long-term foster mum to four (hoping to adopt them): DD1 (aged14), DD2 (11), DS (10) and DD3 (5). My husband works long hours and I sell online to try to keep our heads above water. We've recently had a blow because little DD3 has been diagnosed with a serious condition, so there have been plenty of hospital trips back and forth recently. We're a happy bunch though0

Welcome Pippydee,
Hope you enjoy your time here. I hope your little one improves or they can help stablise the condition...such news is so worrying and often because of fear of the unknown...
I am sure you will get plenty of support."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

It's bonkers I agree, but I think they have to stick to health and safety stuff when they are handing food out, same as you would if you were selling it. It has to come from a registered and inspected premises. It's the same reason that the supermarkets destroy/bin out of date food and won't donate it, because if someone gets ill from eating it, they are apparently still liable (even if they fished it out of the bin)
I had the same thought to donate stuff left over from the stall when it's more than we can process in a week at home, but I was afraid they'd just say yes to be polite then bin it. I found a couple of families locally who were pleased to have cake for the kids.
Kate
Yes, quite true and I understand it especially with food banks and things have to be long life also, but the "adopt a family for Christmas" thing seemed like it could have included homemade, since it would have been a family to family kind of thing. Of course, I guess even if you bake for a neighbour there'd be someone ready to mention health and safety. There's always a way to help someone in need though, you just have to be more resourceful, like you did with the families locally.Softstuff- Officially better than 0070
