I must be the only person in the world that doesn't like mince pies."Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. C. Field.0

No DH doesn't like them either - he doesn't really like anything with loads of dried fruit in so Christmas cake is out too!0

Nope pooky, Dh doesn't like them either but I adore them. I would love to make the mince meat myself but as I don't have the alcohol in my house it would cost me an arm and a leg to try it.
Still raining here. It comes and goes but so heavy when it comes. It's so worrying to think that the ground is just not going to dry out enough for crops is it? That's if there's any goodness left in the soil in the first place. Dire timesI was watching the news where they were saying that these monsoon like weather systems are here to stay and will get worse.
DH has been telling me about the Tees Barrage. Apparently it was built to control the water into the river Tees and so to avoid flooding and tidal change catastrophes. Still, I know the lower Tees was on flooding alert. I hope to see more and more controls put into place. This is getting serious now. Money needs ploughing into the issue and not just defences, in my opinion, because that water is just pushed elsewhere. I think we also need to look at the drainage for our country. It's not adequate any more, again in my opinion... and er, what do I know lol
edit: no, I don't like christmas pudding or even christmas cake  We have chocolate log instead  drizzled with loads of melted chocolate and icing sugar.0 -
Mince Pies are my favourite & I LOVE marzipan ............ I'd be very happy to relieve anyone of their surplus:DSmall victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0

Fuddleis this any good to you?
1 1/2 lb cooking apples
2lb mixed fruit
8oz shreded suet
10oz soft brown sugar (could use molasses sugar)
1/2 level tsp mixed spice
1 Lemon
Peel & core apples, chop & cook without water to a pulp. Remove from heat & cool
Mix fruit with suet & sugar, add grated rind of lemon & juice with spice.
Stir in pulped apple & put into containers & freeze
This is a very old recipe I've had years - use it to use up apple gluts. Its very good & tastes great. If you want to you can add brandy (a miniature??)Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0 -
It's a good carrier for the brandy butter though.
I don't let DH make the brandy butter - his idea of judging how much brandy to put in is to keep sloshing it until it curdles.
I'm much more measured - I can judge to a millilitre when to stop JUST before it curdles:D
I actually prefer sausage rolls and stuffing. But what with little sausages and bacon rolls as well, I do feel a bit porked out by the time Christmas Day is overIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0 -
That's the advantage of DH not liking them - more for me! mmmmmmm Sadly the children are now in competition with me for DH's unwanted mince pies and Christmas cake - and they are cuter than me!!!
I only have to share the marzipan with DD touh as it is much too sweet for DS as he doesn't really have a sweet tooth (he's not even keen on chocolate ).

OH does not like fruit cake or anything with a lot of dried fruit, but loves the mincemeat and Christmas puddings Mrs OG makes. I couldn't eat a shop bought mince pie, they are generally far too sweet.Think big thoughts but relish small pleasures0
