I was wondering about that Mrs VP. The downstairs toilet is at the front of the house. Frosted windows but I would think the neighbours would see us going to the loo without window coverings

Frosted windows are see through with the light on!
Pooky loved Nativity but it wasn't half a tearjerker. And odd to think that Martin Freeman didn't repeat his role presumably because he was busy in NZ being a Hobbit! I have spent my Clubcard vouchers on Cineworld specifically so I can go and see it. I don't think Hobbits are off-topic either. Definitely OS, Hobbits.

Katie: I support those who say 'Get checked out'. Did the same myself some years ago. Measured my length in the car park, shopping scattered far and wide, and me so embarrassed and hoping no-one had noticed got into the car and drove home, then picked up bags and walked down about 18 steps to the door. Eventually went to A&E and I'd broken bones in my foot and my elbow. Plastered from toe to knee and wrist to shoulder. Not nice. Go to doc!

2Ts: We always bring loads of Olive Oil soap home from Symi. Cheap plain wrappers for us and the fancy tourist ones as gifts. Always well received.

Fuddle: OOh your lovely new home. Just needs a wreath on the door and some fairy lights to make it perfect.
My lot always thought that whatever I dished up was special if I added something, yorkshires or roasties or a cheese scone etc. I used to take some mince, mix with grated carrot, onion dried herbs etc and bind it with an egg, put into a loaf tin or mould it into a loaf shape, and bake in oven. Pretended it was best sirloin. OK you have to have a good imagination but when sliced up and presented with a yorkshire and some roasties it's not bad.

Jumble Sales. How I don't miss them. We used to dread them when we had them at school in the 50's and 60's. I well remember the year the headmaster hung his jacket on the back of a chair and someone promptly sold it. And when a little girl found some high heeled shoes and while she was trying them on (for dressing up) someone sold her school shoes. They'd be sued today.

I'm very annoyed. I read on here somewhere about making pastry in the food processor. So I've just tried it. I'm making lemon meringues for Open Arms tomorrow and thought it might be quicker than doing it by hand. It isn't. I couldn't roll the blessed stuff out so ended up squashing it into a ball and bunging it in the fridge for the night. That'll teach it. I'll give it another go tomorrow.

My PC is playing up horribly tonight so I'm giving up and going to bed.

    Love toughies.

Monnagran - I make pastry in food processor and its usually fine. Although I usually let it sit in the fridge for at least an hour :)

Katieowl I hope you're ok and get checked if needs be. I think that sometimes the shock of going down is a hell of a thing too, let alone the subsequent pain.

Fuddle, I've been thinking about your meal problems. I wonder if the issue is the slow cooker somewhat and that's what they don't like. I've never been a fan of stuff cooked in them (I don't like soft and very saucy things) and wouldn't be getting one. Anyhoo, no idea if these will be any help, but figured I'd post some of our meals and see if any of those appealed (I can give you recipes if need be):

Beef and veg in black bean sauce with rice*
Chicken and mushrooms in oyster sauce with rice*
Stir fried chicken and veg with noodles, Japanese-ish style*
    Special fried rice my style
Baked potatoes with homemade coleslaw and cheese*
    Quiche and salad
Pizza (not necessarily a tomato sauce, but instead a basil pesto with chicken, olives and cheese)
    Wonton soup*
Aubergines with a miso topping, served with rice
    Fried potstickers with rice*

The ones marked with a * are quicker to make than they look, they take 15-20 mins from start to finish. The others take a bit longer, but not necessarily active work time, just cooking time. I don't claim any of them to be particularly authentic, (I'm darned sure the chickpea curry wasn't), but they are tasty. I'm not sure if any of those would appeal or not.

I started on cayenne tonight, to loosen my sinus mucus. 1/8 of a tsp in hot water with lemon and honey. I may well get capsules in and start taking them daily anyway. Loads of good info on the net about it and mucus thinning is valuable property

Hi Kittie - I do this whenever I feel I'm starting with a cold. I also wrap up warmly and go to bed in my dressing gown! I saw Michael van Straten on TV years ago talking about natural remedies and thought he made sense, so the next cold I caught, I tried it, and it worked! He also explained that it helps your body to do what it's trying to do, whereas paracetamol etc. suppresses it. Not recommended for children - you need to watch they don't get too hot as it can quickly develop into a fit.

Katieowl - please go and get checked out in the morning. Better to be safe than sorry, eh?
