Fuddle just remember that Basil is an annual and if it flowers it's 'fulfilled it's life purpose' so rather than pulling the leaves off the sides keep pinching the tops off. I'd also thin it out so the little plantlets aren't too close together, because the supermarket stuff is closely packed and not intended to grow on.

If you make a soup or something whizz up the stalks in a bit of the broth for a good basil hit.

I'm in agony. I had a fall while walking the dogs, don't know how I got back to the car to be honest, as I BADLY wrenched my right hip. I managed to drive down the road to my friend, and she got me into the passenger seat and drove me home :( I'm pretty sure nothing is broken, as I can stand up, but I can't walk without the help of the furniture and a walking pole. DH is cooking dinner, and I'm perched in a chair with my left knee up (cut and swollen) and ice on my knee and the other hip. I've totally freaked the dogs out with all my shrieking and yelling, but I'd have still been lying in the road, if I'd not been able to put all my weight onto Roxie to get up!!! Bum! LAST thing I needed!

Road was muddy. I was walking along, I'd let one of the dogs off so she didn't pull me, and I thought I hope I don't fall over and break something , and I just went flying! There's only one house at the end of the lane, I was at the top by the farm, and I just had to get out of the road, because the lady who lives at the bottom is quite old and drives like a lunatic (our nickname for her is 'death on the road') and I wanted out of the road, in case she came along!!!
I tried yelling for the farm's attention when I reached to top, but only managed to alert the farm dogs, and I had to get back to the car quick in case they came along, as my two are terrified of them, and the last thing I needed was to be in the middle of a four dog fight!

I honestly don't know how I got back to the car, my friend says the adreneline just takes over. I'm still pretty shaky. OH has fed me and I have a glass of wine now!

My dad broke his ankle when I was younger, he managed to get back into his lorry and drive for 200 miles home, delivered the container, then dropped his truck at base and made his way home. He spent the evening in agony and had to be bullied to go to A&E - he had a massive break.
It really is better safe than sorry - and on a Saturday better to get to A&E before the pubs get busy :)

I have been helping at DD school fayre for the PTA, I was in kitchen and agreed to do 2 hrs as I was conscious of leaving OH with the boys. OH took DS8 out for a few hours and my parents brought the others to the fayre for a while, so I stayed much longer. Am now in agony as my back has really objected - I should have realised earlier that it was starting to scream and left but was that busy I missed the signs :)

Welcome to the armchair OSers Sheila. I bet you spend more time online now ;)

ginny that is the problem. Ease and comfort. I hardly even close my little thing down, down the lid goes into hibernation, slide under the couch and low and behold there you all are the next time I sit down.. which is too often!

Speaking as someone who also managed to walk back (to a tent on holiday) with a painful ankle, it is worth getting checked out. Maybe even tomorrow morning? (Saturday night at A & E being what it is)
I went to hospital the next morning & sure enough the ankle was broken. My then BF (now DH) got to carry me around for the rest of the holiday. Mind you, I was a bit lighter in those days!

Katieowl get it checked out. You don't want to be getting arthritis in that joint in a few years time because of inflammation that could be treated now.

Fuddle, if you have a sunny windowsill just get a packet of seeds and a plant pot. I sowed parsley, coriander and basil back in March and I'm still picking parsley and basil. The coriander went like a train and bolted before I could use it but it germinates in a matter of days so no problem sowing some more. I've only used a few seeds from each packet so it's a LOT cheaper than buying supermarket herbs. I've tried planting those out before and it's a bit hit and miss TBH. They're grown to look lush for a short period but often planted too thickly
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!

Kate I agree you need to get it checked out. I hope you manage to get some sleep.
Kidcat that's the reason DH has forbidden me from organising any more school fairs - there's no rest and even after knee replacements I just can't stand for any length of time. Luckily we have lots of new blood in the school and they don't need me whatsoever, I needn't feel guilty. Hope you get a good sleep too, it's so hard when you're in pain.
  • Katieowl a heat pad might be helpful as well as ice. It is well worth getting it checked out at your local hospital if you cannot walk. Regular painkillers will also help.

My back is now improving well and I have managed to make two more tote bags for christmas presents and a curtain for the downstairs loo which has never had a curtain and we have lived here for 12 years.
I am playing all of the right notes just not necessarily in the right order :D.
