I am sorry I have been reading but not posting for a few days but between hecticness and migraines I have been meeting myself coming back!

Am going to send general hugs to all

I made a discovery today, the centre we use for our group has an elderflower tree so I can finally make elderflower champagne - if someone can kindly post the link to the recipe again please:)
I am hoping to make it in time for teachers summer gifts.

I don't have our recipe to hand but we found the bottles that tonic water came in to be really good at holding in all that pressure. Don't use a standard wine bottle....it will be messy!

ETA - DH said the best one we ever made was the Hugh Furry-wateringcans version....it'll be lurking online somewhere.

Do whatever you need to get yourself better and don't feel bad about getting a bit tired and down or worse etc. as you have been through a lot and coped with dignity and grace and don't have a mean bone in your body. :A

There's a saying I tell my boys... if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all. However we are all human and say unkind stuff at times, mostly we don't mean it. A wise and thoughtful person will have the grace to apologise and/or accept an apology as appropriate. Here on the toughies board we are wise and thoughtful and here for the good times and bad.

Off for a lovely bath now. Well that's the plan if I don't get disturbed with a "Mum........"

might not have time to post tomorrow, if not I will be thinking of you all and looking forward to lots and lots of posts ;)

I haven't heard him called that before but I think that is what he is likely to be known as in future. Love it.:rotfl:

I had a slight spanner thrown in the works for my job hunting this week. So many applications ask for referees (which is fine), but it gets a little trickier when the boss has handed in his notice this week and immediately been sent on gardening leave. He is the best one to provide the reference but it is going to be interesting explaining why everyone is leaving ... Before Christmas there were five of us, now two, and only one by August. Rats and sinking ships come to mind!!

I'm another one who doesn't drink but am thinking of following the good example of putting down beer for the slugs. They ignored my runner beans for a whole week so I thought this year might be better than last. Unfortunately the first shower of rain has woken their appetites and they are slowly munching up one side of the row. I'm not asking the shop assistant which is the best beer for this purpose though :D

    :) Evening all.

I've heard him called Hugh Fearlessly-EatsItAll, which amuses my little mind, although this new one is equally good.

Had an early tea and went up to the lottie for a couple of hours. It would have been very easy just to sit on my duff online or with my nose in a book, but I got moving (only took five evenings' worth of chidings, lol) and really enjoyed it.

Been pootling about, mainly weeding and started to trim the edges. Two of my English marigolds have come out and a passing gentleman admired my onions. A lady does like to have her onions admired...........:rotfl:

(((Pops))) well done for handling such an emotional day. Please take it gently and be kind to yourself.

 And congratulations to Mr FPK for examination success and to ((hugs)) anyone else whom I've missed out.

I'd like to share a small bit of silliness from t'office this aft.

Between calls, from nowhere, my manager at the next desk says How's your conscience?

I blinked stupidly, thought for a moment, then said Pretty clear, I think.

Whereupon she gave me a blank look; she'd asked me how to spell conscience.............:rotfl:

Oh deary deary me, not only are my eyes going, my ears ain't what they were either...........pass the bath-chair and the hearing trumpet, it's all downhill from here.

Have a good night, lovely peeps. GQ xx

  • KIDCAT sorry for the delay in posting it, we've been playing the quiz at the pub this evening, here is the Elderflower Champagne recipe for you

4 good sized heads of Elderflowers
1 and a half pounds of sugar
    8 pints of cold water
    the juice pf two lemons
the rest of the lemon cut into quarters

In a large bowl put the elderflowers and sugar add the water and stir until the sugar is dissolved. Add the lemon juice and outsides, cover with a teatowel and leave for 24 hours. Sterilize some screw cap bottles and after the 24 hours strain the champagne through cheesecloth or a fine mesh sieve. Bottle in the screw cap bottles (I use wine bottles) then undo the cap by 1/4 turn. Put the filled bottles somewhere cool, I use the garden shed in case one of the bottles pops with the pressure, you won't want that in the kitchen!! and leave for between 5 and 10 days. There will not be signs of fermentation when you bottle the champagne that happens later in the bottle. If the first bottle doesn't fizz all is not lost, leave the rest a few more days before trying them. THEN HOPEFULLY, ENJOY!!!
    Cheers Lyn xxx.
  • I would refute entirely the suggestion that this thread is only run as a clique for a few favoured posters. I will and always have tried to welcome any new posters who do us the honour of posting here, and will and always have tried to be helpful in any way I can money saving or otherwise indiscriminately, and without prejudice, not all new posters stay with us as is the way with all things in life. I'm relatively new to the thread and have not seen Frugal Dreamer post here before this, you may read every day, I don't know if you do, I certainly can't remember your name on a post but I will say that if you ever have need of our help, we will try to give it as we would to anyone who has need. If we seem to band together it's because we are regular contributors and get to know each other by regular communications, again that is the way of the world. I'm not sure why we've incurred your scathing wrath, Fuddle is as welcome to post as you are and we'll help both of you if we can.
