RPP, as if finding a job isn't difficult enough. I've kind if the same situation not having worked properly for 5 years. I have to put that my referee is retired along with his home address not school address. It just adds to me looking like I'm well out of practise. Hope you can find a way around it that shows you in a really good light.

Can I ask how do you clean your oven? It's more so the brown patches on the glass I'm concerned about.

All the elderflower talk is making me envious. Another year where I cannot find any and another year without tasting it!

A clique being a small group of people who spend time together, well yes but we don't exclude others. We have had 3 new members this week and hopefully, as they keep coming back to chat to us, they feel very much like they are included.

If you don't like the tone of the thread then join in and help change it. We'd talk about OS tips all day long! It's no longer a thread preparing for tough times. The tough times have arrived, are ingrained in all our lives and don't seem to be going anywhere soon. The pressure of being squeezed financially spills out to effect every other thread of life. It's inevitable that, given we're also allowed to chat, that we will talk about other areas of our lives.

I won't stop posting about my day because this is my support network. I don't have elders who can teach or guide me and appreciate all the practical tips on how to get by on limited income but it's more than that, it's about being around people with life experience and maturity who can support, having been there done that.
  • Fuddle for a minute there I thought you were asking me how I clean my oven. I wouldn't know as I never have :rotfl: I do know I was told many years ago that you shouldn't use many of the cleaners you buy if you have a fan oven as it gets behind the fan (or something - it was many years ago) and wrecks it. I took this to mean it was best to leave things well alone :D

My current oven is, supposedly, self-cleaning. It's not doing that good a job at the moment!

  • Morning Toughies, it's grey and very warm here today after a muggy night and He Who Knows is going to walk the boy early as black dogs do NOT like hot weather and when it's really hot he goes to ground behind the sofa laying on his back with all four feet in the air he looks so funny!!!

FUDDLE I clean the glass doors on the oven with an amazing product I found in the 99p shop. It's called ASTONISH oven and cookware cleaner and it's a paste you just spread on and wash off, then polish the glass with a dry cloth. It works very well and leaves a nice shiny surface. You can, it says on the tub, use it on ovens, stove tops, pans and cookware, glass ceramic stoves, bath tubs, tiles and sinks, chrome and metal, PVC windows and doors and patio furniture. It works a treat for something that cost 99p. My oven is a self cleaner so to clean the inside of that I whack the heat as high as it will go for an hour or so and the residues burn off. If you have the instruction manual for your oven it will tell you how to clean the inside plates in there.

I'm off on my travels at lunchtime until Sunday afternoon so I'll catch up with all the news when I get home, look after yourselves old and new friends included and have a good and productive weekend, Cheers Lyn xxx.

I for one have always felt welcome in this thread, even though I tend to come and go as a poster. Furthermore, I'm more than happy to give my support to anyone as often as they want it, but I do not think it is appropriate to bring personal grudges or single out other members. Finally, I chose to join in here when I knew I would have some time this summer BECAUSE I have enjoyed reading about the daily lives of some of the more frequent posters, previously named included.

Rosie Pudding Paws and Fuddle--big hugs. Job searches are difficult in the best of circumstances.

GQ, you always make me laugh.

SQ, very glad you've managed a few more connections. It is always nice to see someone else feels the same way.

Pops, What nice plans! I hope you enjoy them.

Well, last night was very celebratory. I made up a new seasoning for the fish and added some sesame seeds to the green beans and stir fried them. OH had brought home some french fancies so we had a very decadent dessert! He is excited about the teaching, and seems to both love it and be good at it. However, we're both looking forward to him being around more since the course has finished. He already knows what he'll be teaching this autumn, so he'll be planning this summer so hopefully next year will go smoothly. There are a lot of teachers in both of our families (although all teachers of the younger lot) and they all say the first year is tough.

I worked a bit slowly yesterday, so will be trying to make up for it today. We have nice weekend plans. Our local borough is having a food festival at the weekend, so we'll pop down to that. We aren't sure if we'll eat or not, depends on the prices. We may decide to have dinner at home and go down for the home made ice cream. Sunday is a car boot sale. It will be my first one in the UK--not quite sure what to expect. At some point we'll also be planning my birthday party. We're going to have friends over to the house since they're all curious about where we've moved to. I'm thinking I'll need to make some bunting and streamers. I'm also thinking a Lancashire courting cake might be in order! Speaking of which, I think I might need to put nets on my plants. I've never done such a thing before so I'll have to research it. I still haven't managed to find the tulle to go over the orange curtains, but there are only a few boxes left. I think there is bound to be enough of that to stretch to curtains and plant nets, but we shall see. We've got strawberries that I expect to hurry up and go red---and I'm also under the impression that if I'm lucky enough to get peppers the birds might eat those too?

Hugs to all who need them, and I'll pass round some of those french fancies for those of you who need a cuppa and a sit down. I promise next time I'll make scones.

    morning all!!

as far as i'm concerned the people on this forum have become good friends and have there for me when others haven't.
It can appear cliquey but at the same time no one ignores anyone and we always try to acknowledge people.Lynn is a star and actively says hello to everyone, especially new users!

As for old style, how many places do people have the chat about fixing bras through to making elderflower champagne.Whilst attempting to have a laugh about the tough financial difficulties we are all having.
Princess came on extremely stressed, facing bankruptcy and suffering from anxiety. Fuddle instantly put her on to helpline which helped clear her mind. Whilst the rest of us tried to support her in other ways. Within a week she's feeling happier in herself and her future. she is a new user but already she has friends here who she can off load without fear of being judged.

To me this is what this thread should be about. To be honest thats i like, as i feel i offload because i don't the kind of people around me to do that.

Very good points Kezlou--I've seen fuddle welcome people with open arms and give advice many times. As for Lyn, I still remember back in the depths of winter, on a completely different thread, I was having a winge. She cheered me up with just a few kind words and it meant the world to me. She does have a special talent for it. Likewise, I posted a very trivial problem a few days ago, something unrelated to OS and a financial niggle rather than real worry and I got all sorts of help and support. Surely the spirit of this thread is that providing support, an ear/shoulder and wisdom is a very OS thing to do, and an important way in which people cope with their day to day lives without the expensive habits that contemporary society seems to think cure all ills.

Also, forgot to say about our mystery neighbour--OH has contacted the owners yesterday but we haven't heard back yet. He says he wants to pop round to the other neighbours today to see if they know anything and then he'll ring the police. Thanks for all of the advice on that, I honestly had no idea if that was a police issue. We're being a bit cautious because what we do know of the man means he might not take kindly to our prying--but we'll do what is necessary in the end if no one seems to know anything.

Well, the rain that's threatened all week arrived last night, saved me watering the spuds, but the burgering snails and slugs are dancing around with glee - just wait until I can get to 'em!!

I don't think this thread is a clique either - that implies that we don't accept or actively exclude people, which couldn't be further from the truth! There are times when RL keeps me from here for a spell, but I can pick up with people like any bunch of friends, including new people. We all take turns in supporting and having a moan, and that balance keeps things going. A lot of the folks on here have horrendous RL problems, and if we need to offload to each other, then that therapy is shared by a large group of like-minded people who, metaphorically, are ready to catch the one who is feeling carp that day - that's priceless! :grouphug:

I need a second cuppa before getting myself in gear, late night plus DH snoring equals VERY k_nackered cheapskate! :D Have a good morning, hugs to all, and I'll pop back later.

    A xo

  • FPK I really hope your mystery neighbour IS ok, I can only say that if I had a neighbour that I didn't know was going to be away and hadn't seen them myself for a period of time I would be as concerned as you are and if no one else knew of thier whereabouts either I would certainly raise the awareness of this with the police. I like to hope that if it was me who was MIA my neighbours here would do the same for me. I should think that the neighbour, if he is hale and hearty, would appreciate that you are concerned for his welfare and be grateful that you cared enough to act on his behalf. It's a good and neighbourly act and you are good caring folks to be taking action on his behalf, Cheers Lyn xxx.

    Morning All

I have used Astonish paste too - it seems to last ages, and is good for cleaning pans (not non-stick) as well. It works by being abrasive (but is very fine), so care needs to be taken on some surfaces.

I use white vinegar with wood ash to clean the glass on the woodburner - not tried it on anything else, but I guess it would work!

Off out for a cheeky brekky, before we work lunchtime!

    Hugs all
