Memory Girl, I was born in the Kingdom (St Andrews) and my parents are buried there. My grandad had a fishing boat in Pittenweem.
GQ I realised I was an old person when the only way I could read in bed was to put the book on the floor and read it from the pillow :)
I really honestly feel like I've got a new lease of life and will def go down to my gp and tell him about it. I think I've been borderline low thyroid forever and they've missed it. I still do get very flat very suddenly but that's normal after 10 years of slugdom.
Shegar pet you def need to get looked at, get tests done xx

Can I ask if anyone else's tea tastes awful in a flask or is it just my flask?

I've tried 3 times now to make a nice cuppa and given up for coffee. My tea has a different taste, so not a case if too strong or weak... Just different.

Hi fuddle I don't often post but I've given up with tea and stick with hot water to make a cup of tea or go with coffee or hot chocolate - I don't know what it is but it does taste funny.

Hi all sorry iv been and gone again iv had a mad 2 weeks.
Some of you may remember the problem I had with my 2 ds school last year, well we moved schools this one is much better but ds has been sent home for 2 weeks becose his one to one has been off sick iv now been hold she's pregnant so can't work with him and they think he. Needs to go to a special educational school. They promised me when the boys started that school they could manage his aspbergas but they clearly can't arhhhhhhhhhh.

Also someone has told me I should be claiming dla for him??????

Anyway better go clean the oven...

    Happy sunday peeps xx

Havent fully managed to catch up but just had to respond,

Firstly DLA - if your child has additional care needs more than an average child of his age then yes you should claim - I receive it for both my boys as their needs are so high.

Secondly school - ooh so many issues, where do I begin - ok TA off sick - the school are supposed to either provide adequate cover or have insurance to provide adequate cover, the LEA will be paying the school for a set number of hours to provide your child with support - there is no proviso in there that if one is off sick then they dont need to bother.
Secondly the pregnancy - without knowing your son or how he behaves in school its hard to be definitive, however it is now a requirement that all schools must do a full risk assessment on any pregnant staff and if there is a risk it must be dealt with. There have been cases of staff who have lost a child due to an incident with a child lashing out so schools are being advised to be ultra cautious - my sons class would not be allowed a pregnant TA, upon announcing a pregnancy the TA would be moved to a different area of resposnsibility for the duration. And it is the same across our whole authority and neighbouring ones too.

It should be fairly simple to move your DS TA to a different area and substitute her with a non pregnant staff member.

But finally, many schools will say they can deal with a certain disability but the reality can be vastly different, this may be because they simply did not understand the level of need a child may have or it may be that the childs needs have changed since the undertaking. If they are now saying that they cannot cope then my experience is that it is most definitely not the place for him, yes schools can be forced to make changes to accommodate but a school that is forced to do anything will not do it whole heartedly and it will always be a battle and resented.

I think you would be best having a meeting with the head teacher, the SENCO and if you can get your local Parent Partnership rep as well. I would try to get someone from your LEA SEN team that would be ideal too. Discuss what their concerns are, why they feel they cannot cope and what their suggestions are, then your LEA SEN team can advise what they feel is appropriate and what is available.

Bearing in mind it may be that the LEA say that school have not made reasonable efforts and will attempt to make the school comply, but you will not be the person pushing.
I would point out that SEN budgets across the country have been cut and in our area that has meant that where previously additional support was provided by the LEA for say 10 hours and the the school had to match that with 10 hours funding from their own budget. We now have the situation where the LEA will pay 7 and school must pay 13, so alot of schools are trying to balance the budget, getting rid of TAs and the result is trying to shift our kids with high needs.

Mrs Chip - thank you, I will be making them again this week. :)

Sheila - are you a member of your local carers centre? they may be able to get you some additional support whilst you are so low, if not try Red Cross, I was at an event this week which had lots of organisations there to advice carers what help was available - and by chance got chatting to the Red Cross lady who was explaining that they actually do alot for carers, I have since contacted her and she has arranged to have someone sit with one of my in crisis family's children (one child has attempted suicide this week) while mum visits and attends meetings, had their shopping done for them and even got them a lift home from a hospital appointment on the day I couldnt manage it.

:) Hi Fuddle (and other flask-users).

Flasks are best kept exclusively for coffee or exclusively for tea, as even after washing up, there can still be a taint inside. Even if you remember to store them with their tops off, they can still get a bit frowsty from time to time and benefif from an overnight soak with a couple of spoonfuls of bicarb of soda and then filled with boiling water.

It froths like crazy, so wait a few seconds for the bubbles to die down and then put in some more water until flask is full. It freshens them up a treat.

I have a spinny head caused my much taking off and putting on of new glasses frames and have darkened the door of several opticians' premises but Sp*cS*vrs is the best deal, as it was the last two times I bought spex. Since I was getting hungry and fractious, made notes of prices and frame preferences and came away. Will deal with that one day next week when I'm on a late.

Mar; thanks for the PM. D'you think they're available in terrestrial shops, too? (Kelp tabs btw).

I've read in several places that the so-called normal range of thryoid readings is so huge that it's questionable whether some people testing up as normal might not be deficient after all. I shall give it a go anyway, as it seems to have turbocharged our wee Scottish friend, and I want some of that mojo........

Was going allotmentwards this aft but am wearier than anticipated so will pootle about, do some chores between reading online, and prolly pop over to see a pal, as we have a sort-of arrangement to hook up for a while this afternoon.

Darlings, I shall be baking my famous wholemeal bread rolls. They have the appearance of cobblestones but fortunately are tasty and almost entirely edible. Come the revolution, I shall make them with extra gravel and use them as weapons.
Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.
