It didn't Pops but thanks, I've been a bit busy-ish, but that's good,. Don't worry about missing me. I was a bit worried about the trike being in people's way, which is why I thought you would have seen it!

    Morning all!

I hope there will be some relaxation this weekend for those who need it.

Just a quick check in while OH is in the shower. A leg cramp woke me up this morning, must be time to go back to the gym. I had a nasty cold while we were moving that tried to get a foothold in my chest, so I was giving the exertion a miss, but looks like I'll be back at it on Monday. I always dread it when I haven't been in a few days and then like it.

Will probably spend the afteroon sorting out the desk and then will either have a quick tidy or do a bit more unpacking. Friend coming for tea tomorrow--she is the first to see the house, but she's my good friend so won't mind that we've still got boxes here and there and nothing hung up. Sunday is shopping day and then will spend the afternoon working.

On foxgloves--I love them. How interesting that you have managed a variegated specimen Mrs. LW! My mum knows loads of things about plants, foxgloves are one of the few I actually remember about--they're poisonous, but used in the right dosage they are used in the heart medication digitalis. Of course, I'm sure heart medication is made in a lab of synthetically replicated foxglove chemicals these days. I really should borrow some of my mums books and read up on these things. Of course, the best thing is their name. I love picturing lady foxes prancing about in pink and purple gloves!

Pops--love that link to the salads. We eat loads of salads like that--good way to get more veg in us as I prefer much of my veg either raw or lightly cooked.

    :) Morning all.

I have spent an uninterrupted seven hours in the Land of Nod and am feeling much restored. Just drinking tea after brekkie and waiting for my meds to metabolise, then off to the lottie for a couple of hours. Weather is mostly sunny so all is well in my particular part of the world.

savingqueen, your terrace sounds like the one I grew up in, a 1960s council house which the parents subsequently bought and still live in. We were blessed with good neighbours but the lack of sound insulation was beyond ridiculous; you could hear a laugh, a light switch going on, never mind appliances running. Here at The Towers it's far worse; you can hear coughs and even belches through the party walls/ ceilings/ floors. Never mind the barneys some couples seem to have all the time.

What makes me wonder about their sanity is when they insist on bringing the row outside into the public domain in the late evening/ wee hours, and broadcasting their business all over the block. I once heard someone shout down from an upper floor that they should speak up because there might just be someone on the top floor who couldn't hear every word........:rotfl:That caused that particular couple to slink back indoors shame-faced.

Seems to be a countrywide problem, one I deal with a lot in the course of my job. Complete obliviousness on many peoples' parts to the hour of the night or the rights of other people not to have their space compromised by other people's choice of music/ drug smoke etc etc. Dunno whether it's poor upbringing, lack of a sense of propriety, just plain selfishness run rampant.

Anyway, on happier thoughts, I had a LBM. Was it FairyPrincessK who had some very sound but burnt orange curtains she wanted to do something with? I wondered if the colour could be toned down to something more subtle and acceptable by adding an overlay of a cheap, translucent fabric such as a gauze? Perhaps white over orange = peach?

Just a thought, anyway. I feel her pain as have had to live with similar issues in the past. They're good curtains, but every time you see them, you wince inwardly.

Hokay, quick browse around the rest of the web as I drink the tea, then off to the allotmentino to see what has gone wrong since last time.................:p Have a good day, GQ xx

Exactly what I was thinking, GQ! I have some thin white curtains and a very, very long piece of tulle that i used in my bedsit when I first moved here to make a sort of divider from the bed and the sit. I think either one is a possiblity but need to find them in the chaos. The curtains would require me to put up another set of curtain poles--a task I have yet to attempt with my drill, so I might go with the tulle, probably pinned on! I've had some real ugly spots in my time, glad I'm not the only one!:rotfl:

Must go, don't want to miss my bus--OH will then be in a strop about not getting out early enough. He'll be in one soon enough about Ikea, luckily, I've raided the change jar so we've got funds for cinnamon buns. Food should win him over for the first bit, then I can bribe him with the meatballs.:D

I don't ruddy believe this... The JCB is fired up and beeping/digging out the front and the dumper truck is moving earth along the back. They are working on a Saturday!!

Its sunny at the moment but there's deep grey heavy sky approaching so hopefully rain will stop play :D

I awoke in a much better state of mind. DH is fishing today, down in North Yorkshire and the chilblains and I are staying put indoors. I fancy an 'earth mother' day today - as opposed to frantic/stressed can't cope kind if mode of late. I was saying to Lyn in PM yesterday that my being the way I have been has most definitely been fuelling the negative behaviour of DD :(

I found some cross stitch fair isle examples of Christmas cushions which I really liked so figured learning to cross stitch it would require the white material (do you know why it's called and where to get it cheap?) and some red skins of thread. Oh, that hobby raft being just down the road is flaming tempting. Good job it's over priced... Maybe cross stitch won't cost the earth eh?

DD has finally finished a rug rug she's been doing. She got frustrated as couldn't follow a pattern that came with it and had a break but has decided to put the colour wool higgildy piggledy, finishing it last night. I love to see her crafting. For Christmas the girls are getting sew your own teddies, crochet hook and yarn, eldest some crocheted squares to stitch together herself for a blanket. That kind of thing.

I only discovered OS as a way of making ends meet after disaster. I would like the girls to be savvy an frugal so they can avoid disaster in the first place... Plus it's fun and goes hm in hand with my lifestyle.

Time to go get ready then. I'm being taunted by a dog who keeps bringing in teddies with a wagging tail. That's Alfie speak for 'I'm being a bit naughty mam, come chase me to get the teddy back!' Unfortunately for greedy Alfie he's been trained give and assiciates the word with a treat. He doesn't hold on to stuff for long when you give tw command... Ever hopeful for foodstuffs that dog ;)

:) You can support very light gauzy curtains on either a curtain wire (buy by the measurement in the hardware store) or even on a bamboo bean pole (widely available for pence).

Depending on what kind of header the curtains have, and what kind of rail/ track/ pole the existing curtains are supported with, of course.

If I can make a small suggestion, it'd probably be better to tack the tulle onto the curtains with loose stitches, as pins, whether safety or sewing pins, have a habit of rusting into the curtain. HTH.

Hope you enjoy your shopping adventure. I shall be weeding.

  • Oh eck FUDDLE just what you need NOT!!!!! lets hope they only work the morning and not all day. If it gets through to you again today is there anywhere you could take the girls that wouldn't involve parting with cash, like maybe the library for a good browse, or maybe a free museum if it's going to be wet, just to get you away from the continuous noise? Good Luck, Lyn xxx.

No it was not me that was into the low carb diet. I will however be making lots of muffins for the freezer today as I picked up a banana bargain in Tesco yesterday. They were selling off shopping bags full to the brim of bananas (5.8 kilo) for 8p :D. When I got home OH saw the bag and thought that I had lost the plot but when he looked at them he could not get over it because as he put it "there is nothing wrong with them and some of them are still quite green".
I will be baking banana chocolate chip muffins on an industrial scale for the freezer.

Kez your aunt sounds like an amazing woman. Hold on to the good memories and keep them close. it sounds like she is not one to dwell on the negatives of life.

Fuddle you had best be prepared, we moved onto an unfinished new estate and as more and more people bought the plots the working hours became longer and they worked all weekend to finish places off ready for peoples moving in dates. However this did mean that it all got completed earlier in the long run.
I am playing all of the right notes just not necessarily in the right order :D.

Kez - sounds like your GA is an amazing, strong woman, she will obviously be much missed.

Fuddle - I'd be off out somewhere nice an quiet - library sounds perfect!

Mrs VP - don't forget to freeze some just chopped - they are great for making an instant banana ice cream - just whizz up in a food proccessor with a bit of evap milk, or cream, until they turn into delicious, soft banana-ry loveliness!

Weather cool and changeable, nothing like June, getting quite worried for the summer and my plants :(.

Hugs for those who need them, I guess this weather will mean a lot of us will be mooching about under our own personal little grey clouds - I must try to make it sunshine!

Just a quick note to Fuddle, being in construction myself (assoc. profession anyway), I doubt they will work past 1. If they even go up to the full half shift - we never do....
:AStarting again on my own this time!! - Defective flylady! :A
