fuddle - if you haven't used the hairspray and are able to grab a cheaper one, take the expensive one back to the shop. Just say your DH also bought one and forgot to tell you or something. I do that a lot now.

We are also a cool bag family. Even if not out for long I carry 2 bottles of water for the kids in a small cool bag (one of those standup lunchbags - fits 2 kids bottles in perfectly) or in my handbag failing that.

This is probably a daft idea but if you have anything waterproof knocking about (bit of tarp, old shower curtain or wipe down tablecloth?) could you tack it to a cheap fleece so the underside is damp proof? Just a thought.

eeek better go and get ready, forget the tidying up, naughty SQ!

That is so not a bad idea sq! You've got my mind racing now.

I'm really hopeless at taking things back. I get embarrassed. I know, I'm not at all savvy and a bit of a baboon!

Me too, my fridge always looks bare anyway because all I have is opened jars, dairy, milk and juice. I could do with a smaller fridge and bigger freezer. Speaking of left overs till they are no more, my two have gone to school with coleslaw sarnies (nothing elde. 'tis not cruel, they like 'em) and a pot of tato salad! They are having burgers and coleslaw and tato salad for tea because its curry might and they won't eat curry... Gets the dregs used up though eh ;)

Also can I please ask how you clean your toilet? I have always used flush able wipes and I don't like that I do. I'm iffy about toilets so the wipes suit me yakky wise but not environmental or 'overpriced chuck away piece of cloth already covered in solution for ease'. Any suggestions OS?

I sray mine with watered down stardrops and wipe with a cloth - I tend to use a cut up old towel, sweatshirts, dishcloths that have gone to holes (all clean of course) or if I run out of "old" stuff I cut a cheapy j cloth in half. Wipe seats and outside all over and then use a cream cleaner inside the bowl, if I have some ecover then i use that otherwise good old cif or Mr M's cheapy, clean it with the same cloth (yes using my hand and, no, I don't usually use gloves  I just wash my hands after) I use a dishwashing type brush under the rim. Flush loo and squirt with ecover loo cleaner - or bleach if I have none and leave an hour or two. Then I chuck the cloth away and wash my hands!

I know people are funny about loos and I do clean mine regulalry - even if nothing else gets done but, honestly there are more unsavoury spots I am sure. I've just cleaned my dishwasher -:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek: - goodness that was minging, and I wash my dishes in there :o

SQ - you might be surprised at how many people walk into a room the same way you've described. Even the most confident looking ones - possibly especially the most confident looking. I teach, and at times have had classes of 150 students. People think I am super confident but there have been moments where I've stood outside the door of a lecture room cringing "I can't go in, I can't go in" - shove open the door, big smile, a very loud "Mooorrrrniiinnngg" and I'm off. It's a bit like acting really :rotfl:
I wanna be in the room where it happens

I pootled along to the dr this morning about my painful shoulder/chest pain, it turns out to be an impingement of the shoulder and I will have an injection on Friday. A solution, how fab is that! :T

The pain in my knee, well I said it's probably my weight, and he said, there's "no probably about it". :rotfl::eek:

So, today, is the start of my losing weight again! :o

edit, VJ, what a fab idea using a washing up brush for the rim of the toilet, never thought of that.

another edit, I was reading a country mag in the drs and read an article about someone getting a dog, meant to be a puppy but turned out to be almost a full grown dog, the vet who told them this said, "don't worry, I had a chap in last week who was sold a puppy in a pub, under the table so to speak and I had to tell him it was a guinea pig!" I LOL.
  • Morning Toughies, cloudy and much cooler this morning, sad because the sunny warm bit was lovely glad because we won't have to use up so much water on the garden!!!

We have just had a pop into the new Whiteley Village they have been advertising on the TV, what a waste of effort, both from us and the people who knocked down every crumb of the existing infrastructure and rebuilt it almost identical!!! It was going to be a 'High Street' for Whiteley but it is a clone of everywhere else - OK there is now a Boots and a M&S but all the same brands as any other small out of town retail park, not worth the effort, so we'll leave it alone from now on.

FUDDLE have a look in Wilkos for a picnic blanket or do what the girls always did for guides/camping. Make sitters for you all, all you do is pop a couple of newspapers into a double black plastic sack, fold over the sack to make the cushion sized sitter and stick it down all round with tape. They don't last forever but are free, and waterproof and quite comfy. You might strike lucky and find an old blanket in a charity shop, and if you get a cheap tarpaulin from one of the pound shops you've got a waterproof underlayer.Toilet cleaning, I also use old towels cut up, I have disinfectant water in a bucket, clean the outside and the seat first, then put the used cloth in the disinfectant water and clean the inside of the loo with a long handled loo brush and some cream cleaner. Then I run some cheap bleach round the inside rim and leave it for a couple of hours, keeps them clean and bug free. The cloth gets rubbed through in clean disinfectant water and dried on the line ready for next time. Tea Lights, the cheapest deal I know of is 100 for £1,99 at I*ea, but not everyone has one as close as I do, Have a good one all, Cheers Lyn xxx.

A guinea pig... a dog that squeaks when hungry? ;) lol

Champion. Stardrops girl here. I use it for everything other than dusting and toilets. Ill look out for cream cleaner too. I have posh cloths :p crochet rags haha - handmade though. Quite good for scrubbing but because I use cheapy wool they don't last long so although free ish (wool scraps) they aren't very sustainable.

Disinfectant. Will look out for that (don't know what it is but I'm are ill find it in the cleaning isle.

Thank you for the ikea heads up. Our closest is Gateshead (Newcastle) so quite a trek up so might just pay that extra £1 - now that's savvy :p

I'm trying to keep chipper today as today was the day we should have been getting on that coach to go to Provence. :( the house move ruined that and even though we do have money in the saving pot we thougt it best not to go in the end. We have had the best weather here lately and some fun and games in the garden so there's nothing to be miserable about eh?

    Ill get there one day!

DH drove past a very nice seafood restaurant in North Yorkshire yesterday so its where we're headed for our 7th wedding anniversary next month. Gotta save, expensive! What material symbolises 7 years of marriage, does anyone know?

FUDDLE look for disinfectant in the pound shops, or A*di or L*dl, they often have it at good prices and you can find dettol which is very good,at reasonable prices. If you find the Zoflora concentrated disinfectants they come in nice perfumes like lavender and hyacinth, makes a change from the usual pine!! and they last ages because you use so little each time.

If you're feeling flat because of missing the Provence holiday this time round I'm sure that Provence will still be there until you can get there pet, make some french food and next nice day have it in the garden in the sun and pretend, works wonders for your morale, have a theme day, croissants for breakfast, cold meat and sliced cheese for lunch with french bread, and maybe a Tian (I've got a recipe if you want one) which is a baked cheesy, courgetty, ricey, eggy sort of loaf thing, very yummy, with a salad and some fresh fruit and of course VINO!!! Throw in a good cup of coffee and you have Provence in the North of England!!! Keep smiling, Cheers Lyn xxx.

Do you live near a good fishing port up in the North FUDS? if you do the best seafood restaurants usually occur quite close to the port, and they will have the freshest fish and the cheapest prices, might be worth investigating for a nice anniversary day out rather than go to a really expensive restaurant and pay several limbs in the process, Lyn xxx.

Princess, great news about the money.
Ginny, sorry to hear DH isn't so good. I'm sure the little one will cheer him up, it's lovely to hear how he's so loved and cherished. I hope my parents and PILs feel the same way about my children.
Byatt, glad the shoulder is being seen to! You and me both with the weightloss. I got to 35 lbs loss but I have lost my mojo somewhat in the last few weeks and put a few lbs back on. It must stop!
Fuddle if you want a waterproof mat Asda do one for a couple of £s more: http://direct.asda.com/ASDA-Jumbo-Waterproof-Picnic-Rug/000947524,default,pd.html
I like a waterproof backing in case the ground is a bit damp - stops too much grass sticking too.
Would it be really gross to admit we save old toothbrushes for horrible jobs like scrubbing round the toilet rim? Then chuck them. We use a cut up j cloth too, and clean all bathroom related stuff, toilets last, and then throw out. I use any old cleaning fluid I've got TBH, as I seemed to have 100s of half used bottles under the sink. They're almost all gone now and horror of horrors I might actually need to buy some.
DH has his follow up appt with the doc today so I imagine his dose of anti-ds will be increased. He had been feeling better the last few days but has gone downhill again today. We all have our ups and downs anyway so trying not to read too much into it. He has been very good at keeping himself busy and doing all the little jobs which need doing, so the house is looking better anyway.
