I wish I hadn't been drinking coffee when I read this - you all know what happened!!
PIC - so hope you get news of your wandering puss soon. I know how much worry you go through when they don't come in when they should.
Fuddle - what great news! A dry house for your future. It should be better insulated too, being newly built, so much cheaper to heat.

My parents had to stop feeding the birds for a while too as there was a large rat eating it all. Unfortunately the rats probably think the dog food is for them.
Have had two cake disasters - made a brown sugar cake and a chocolate cake and both stuck all over the silicon pans. They look an utter mess. Oh well, they'll taste the same.
I know that in our school we have class sizes of mostly 30, but some are 32 and one even 33 so it's worth a try. I don't understand the criteria - maybe something to do with where you live?
However, I am so pleased for you and your family. A lovely new house for Christmas - you must have been a good girl!
Little Becca - my thoughts are with you and your OH. It must have come as such a shock. Fuddle...so happy for you, hope it all works out well for the children with schools.
Beccatje....so sorry to hear about your OH losing his job, hope that he can get another one soon.
Mardatha....add my hands to your circle please...
PIC...hope that your cat comes home soon.
Can't remember who was complaining about an unco-operative OH....mine has always been like that, for years I just stayed home when he wouldn't go somewhere, now I go alone, be it shopping or to social events...don't know why I didn't do it 40 years ago!
Get well soon all those who are suffering from various illnesses, stay warm and sleep well

I just popped on to the thread about whether people have their CH on or off. Can't think why, but, if anyone else has looked at it, why are they all so smug that their heating is off? One recent poster is saying they are wearing two layers (no harm in that) but that their living environment is at 10 degrees. Where is the pleasure in living like that?
This probably resonates since my heating has had to be switched off for a few days since, following a boiler service (by a firm that appears to be trying to rip me off by condemning the boiler), an oil leak developed. It took me a day or so to get a recommendation for a decent plumber and they have very efficiently fixed it today. It took two and a half hours and I dread to think what it will cost but it is so very nice to be warm again.
It did mean that I have done my first shop sticking entirely to my list. Well, its hard to go wrong when you only have milk, bananas and a sticky bun (to celebrate!) on the list! I shall be living out of the stores for a good few weeks.
So many people seem to be going through so much at the moment so here's my hand too Mar.

Well done the Fuddle family on your new home.
Can I add my hands to your circle please Mar."When one door closes another door opens; but we so often look so long and so regretfully upon the closed door, that we do not see the ones which open for us" Alexander Graham Bell0 -
Lillibet AFAIK the legal limit for infant class size is 30 at the moment. For juniors it's fine to go over. So it will be a case of checking if any of those schools have a place available for the younger DD first as she is in Infants.
At least that's how I understand it. Children move schools all the time and it's perfectly possible a place has become free since September, it just depends if there is a waiting list for that year group. A quick call to each school should make the situation clear.0 -
RPP, I refuse to be in a cold house unless necessity (I don't mean tropical, just comfortable) I will always go and stick another jumper on and am sat on the sofa now with a fleece throw over my knees. I find if the house is too cold I feel less inclined to get up and go into other rooms and do stuff. I know housework is supposed to warm you up but if it is cold my joints ache. I have and am continuing to do little jobs where possible to insulate the house so at least it stays warm long after the heating has gone off. (we don't have a stat on our heating or rads, just on or off.:()0

fuddle well done on the new house, as for school the are circumstances in which the class size rule can be expanded, if for example there is no places available locally to you then the class size can be increased

Congratulations on the new home Fuddle! And no, the rats aren't yours to deal with.
I'm so sorry to hear your news Beccatje *hugs*. Hoping he finds a new job quickly. I never cease to be surprised how businesses can treat staff so inhumanely.
SDG, Mum got very down with Dad when he was depressed and wouldn't get out of bed. She just started going out on her own and that was that. He did get up a bit more then.paidinchickens wrote: »What a !!!!py day. If I win the lottery I'm taking us all to somewhere warm and all inclusive so keep your fingers crossed
I'm annoyed because the bread I bought Friday afternoon was mouldy Saturday afternoon (with a use by of Monday). It meant a quick trip to subway for dinner because we'd planned just a sandwich before going to the concert and didn't have time for cooking anything. Will be taking the bread back today. I'd like to wrap it around the bakers ear.Softstuff- Officially better than 0070
