Thanks for the cherry heads up Byatt. I am expecting to pass the farm shop (if it is the large one on the main road) later this week so will make a note to call in and check it out. Thanks also for the invite. I may well take you up on it one day!
No new job yet, but the old one will limp along till the end of July so I have a little more time to search. There's a job fair in a nearby town to you on Thursday so plan to go to that.
Trying to resist the bay of e. I saw something there the other day and the auction ends shortly. It is a want not a need, but I do really want it. Hmm ...

With four years to go I have started a retirement bottom drawer. I have sheets and duvet covers and will add towels, tea towels and other things as I think of them.0

RosiePP, my downfall is FB, so many bargains, got a huge terracotta pot for £5 today! I did need it, honest.:o Yes, it's the big one just off the A road. I got a few, but hopefully they will still have them when you go, mine cost 55p, I didn't get many. :rotfl:
Grandma, sounds like a plan. :T
Playing The Boss rather loudly, p'd off with the neighbours who insist on parking right outside my cottage (no pavement) so I can't park properly and as near a corner cars come around quickly and it's dangerous. So playing some Bruce...I'm such a considerate neighbour but I rebel occasionally.edit, mind you the walls are so bloody thick probably no-one can hear!

I trust Polo likes The Boss.:D
Managed to resist my bargain. Couldn't work out how I was going to get it home (it was a collection only one). There are a couple of other items though but they finish tomorrow so have a bit more time to think about them.

RosiePP, funny you should say that I don't think Polo does, he went upstairs as soon as The Boss started. :rotfl: Mind you it might be singing along to it that made him run!
edit, singing...#I've got the radio on and I'm just killing time...and Iiiiiiii believe in the prooooooommmmmmmised land...#
Clarence on sax...
another edit, forgotten how much I LOVE this man. Listening to some of his new songs (I've had the CD for ages, but not played), honestly, every time, my heart just bursts...he's been touching my heart since 1984 (saved my life), and for many years I followed all his tours, even went to NJ to see where he was born, The Stone Pony and the boardwalk. It's like an angel playing my heart strings...0 -
Byatt I got the results from the Dexa scan straightaway. I had to call my dh in as I knew I wouldn't be able to remember all the lovely woman said (another problem which has been on going waiting for another appointment for that
) lol I am on medication for it Calcium tablets twice a day and a different tablet to be taken on a set day each week. I will have a review in two years time again. Ah well onwards and upwards
Do a little kindness every day.;)0 -
The sun is making us all happier again today.
Great to see you posting again monnagran. We sure did miss your chearful and hilarious take on the world around you. You're a tonic.
As we're childless (at the beach with their gran and staying there again tonight!) we took the pup up Roseberry Topping and walked for 4 hours around the beginnings of the North York Moors. We stumbled across the most amazing quaint little villages which only whetted our appetite further for country living. We spoke in great detail about our future and have decided not to buy a house. I know. We really should try for security in retirement and I am scared but if we buy (and that's. big if, we've no deposit and bankruptcy record) we would be busting a gut to get something cheap and settle in town/city when we're rural folk at heart. So, were leaving our options open so when the girls leave home we can rent anywhere we like.
I'm 33 and DH is 37. Time is still on our side to buy (which is why I feel I should at least try!) but circumstances and lack of savings means that we're far from even being in a position to try to save for a deposit that its just not going to happen.
My question is: how will we pay private rent in retirement? I've a pension but only putting £10 a month away at the moment. Thats my worry.0 -
Afternoon toughies and welcome back monnagran, nice to have you back in the fold
Having a quick break in between birthday preps (and general chores) for DS8. 3rd lot of washing in machine as I type, one dry, one drying.
Took DS8 shopping this morning so DS6 (with help from daddy)could make his big bruv a card as is tradition in our house and wrap the books he bought with his saved pocket money. Was lovely to have some special time together, DS8 helped me buy rest of picnic food for tomorrow's birthday trip out and other bits of shopping. I had a £6 off voucher which we blew the equivalent of in the cafe as an early birthday treat.
Pressies wrapped, just need to decorate with balloons and banners tonight and decorate the cake which I am about to make. Oh and sort picnic and bags for tomorrow as we plan to leave early to beat the bank hol traffic. One of DS8's favourite friends is coming too so told his mum to drop him off at 7.45, poor woman. Both sons want to help me make a big chocolate cake so lots of mess will ensue!!
off to get covered in chocolate!

Aw have fun sq! Lick the bowl for me
I've been thinking. You might think it callous to think but what the heck. I think I have some inheritance. When my dad died the mortgage on mams house was paid off by insurance. She has always said it will go to me and my sister when she dies but says she doesn't have a will (head in the sand) will I still get part of the house if there's no will? A the moment it's worth around £80000 but as you all now can imagine its in a really rather desperate state inside. I guess even part if that won't go very far on rent. A decent deposit but I might be 60 myself by the time I am allowed it. I sound like a right money grabbing witch. Really sorry. Just trying to plan but its all what ifs anyway!
I should thank my lucky stars that I might have a bit of inheritance and take solace of that bit security waiting in the wings.
Will we get it without a will though?0 -
fuddle - if there's no will, then the inheritance goes to the next of kin. So If there were 2 parents, the one left gets the money, property etc., but when they're both gone it passes to any 'bloodline' children equally. (I'm not sure what happens with stepchildren) I think there is a cut off point where you have to go to 'Letters of Administration' if it's over a certain amount. It's like going to 'prove' a will, but without the will IYSWIM. Hope that helps a bit
It's always better to have a will, though, so maybe try to get your Mam to make one? It's not all about the money and property. What about the teaset for example? You don't want to be arguing about what your Mam said you could have or your sister could have. It's hard enough when the time comes.2025 Fashion on the ration
