Evening toughies, I love that the minute we get some sun the talk turns to gardening, its lovely.
Today after dancing I bought some compost and this afternoon we tackled planting rather than going out.

I now have a mini greenhouse with trays of seeds done including tomato, pumpkin, sweetcorn, spring onions and cucumbers, and some growbags with bought tomato and cucumber plants all done.
I then turned to filling the hanging baskets and pots, I still have some to do but I am getting there finally.

Thanks Lyn - yes both quite done in now, but the G&Ts are certainly helping!

And who knew you could do so much with Alexanders - the Romans obviously! :rotfl:.

Must try the fritters, if they are anything like elderflower fritters they will be lovely.

I did try to post last night and lost the lot just as I was about to send it :( condolences on your cat RPpaws. I am absolutely dreading when we start losing pets.
saw the dr in the week, alopecia spreading and although no more migraines, my tourettes is getting loads worse and leaving me with all sorts of aches and pains for the twitching. have been given diazepam temporarily to try and calm things down. the dr who is notorious for not giving sick notes asked me how long I would like to be signed off work for and his jaw nearly hit the floor when I said no thank you!

D&DD, did you get the sun where you are today?

Have returned from holiday to find that everyone seems to have survived my absence. Hardly even missed me in fact. Such a blow to my self-esteem.

Have flipped through the last few days and am appalled at what some of you are going through. My heart goes out to all of you suffering sadness, pain and difficult circumstances. It's all very well offering virtual hugs and sympathy but then we can get on with our own lives, leaving you to struggle on. I wish there was some way to make a practical difference but there isn't, of course, and all I hope is that when things are unbearable we can all know that someone somewhere is surrounding us with loving thoughts and comfort. Isn't that what this forum is all about?

Hasn't it been a lovely day? I had lunch on the beach with my youngest son and family. Mia is 8 months old now and has just started crawling, though she can only go backwards as yet. She is absolutely edible, all smiley and dimply and only has to spot a camera and poses beautifully. I sense a little diva in the making!

Love all the talk about gardens. A young man from our 'Drop-in' was anxious to make a bit of money so I told him he could weed my back garden while I was away. Bless him! He recognised rose bushes and somehow a clump of Aquilegeas escaped his minstrations but everything else has been ruthlessly 'weeded'. It is very neat. And empty. Most attractive if bare earth is your thing. I have made this garden from scratch, there wasn't one when we arrived, but as we are not sure how much longer we will be here I don't intend spending actual money on it. I've lots of saved seeds, goodness knows what they are my non-labelling habit extends to the garden, but I'm going to sprinkle them randomly over the brown earth, water them in and see what happens.

The spicy smell of the Drop-in's bread pudding for tomorrow is filling the house so I must take it out of the oven and go to bed.

Night all. It's good to be back. I think.

Nice lazy day today, glorious weather, and the treat of a BBQ at the stud tomorrow to look forward to. DS & self are going down to view the new crop of horses.

Good to hear some good news from many of you and what a relief to be able to put all of Pops' housing worries firmly into their correct perspective.

I've cooked something similar to the cabbage casserole and testify as to the tastiness. Good to share these things. I also do a version with a lamb breast roasted on top, with cooking bacon, oats and lemon mixed in to the cabbage.

Poppies - I have a very large oriental perennial, I've also grown Welsh poppies as a self seeding annual and Californian poppies. The Californians had huge pink mop heads, more like peonies than poppies and seeded everywhere for years. Eventually they stopped growing in my front flowerbed (I have a townhouse) and moved to next door's. Not sure if any have appeared this year though.

After eating so well, I'm afraid I have given in and am now eating my way through a bag of jelly babies...

Hugs to you Lisa...I hope if the problem is improved if it cannot be stopped...thanks for your good wishes and they are sent back your way...

Now that I am thinking of baking cakes and other things...I have done something I never have...I came home with a tray of 30 eggs! It helps that I realise that often eggs are ok past their best before date and that you can check their freshness by doing the floating egg in water test...
