I'm not a fan of loose tea (cost being the main issue) but our autumn/winter afternoon treat (yes it is a treat) is to make a pot of tea and use cups and saucers (albeit chunky polka dot ones ) and serve on a tray with a milk jug. I do love a quick mug of tea or three but there's something very indulgent to sit down (normally with the fire lit) for a proper pot of tea.
I've got a poorly kitten toay, she's obviously sprained/pulled something in her back legs as she's hobbling well. She only went to the vet a week ago for a different issue so luckily we have some painkillers left for her. She's now in purry mode on a cushion. I shall see how she is tomorrow before making an appointment, I won't let her suffer and we've enough painkillers for a few days yet."Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. C. I can't stand tea made in a mug with a teabag. I demand a pot - had to buy all my kids teapots to get it though lol0

Loose tea isn't expensive, is it? I often buy Sainsbugs red label and make it with one of those infuser thingys. One 250 gram pack lasts me ages.0

We're all on a budget and struggling to a lesser/greater degree and none of us know what the future will bring.
So thought you may like the following...even though its an American site and some items may not be available here.

I'm completely new to the loose tea idea but its one that we want to give a go as there's nowt like a good cuppa at about 8pm when kids are sleep and DH and I are able to relax in peace.
Mar does a tea bag tea taste better out of a pot?
I hope all our Scottish friends are ok this afternoon/evening. I've been reading about the energetic storms heading your way. Stay warm, dry and please be flood free.
Thanks for the boots points idea for citronella. I don't use boots much, if at all these days but I might just have a couple £ from the old days on there. The skin so soft from avon arrived this afternoon so at least ill be covered this evenings dog walk.0 -
Don't forget Farmers market/ordinary market in Stockton this coming Saturday...anyone in the Durham/Teeside area.
Tea...when Mum passed away I seemed to drink lots of weak coffee...but for sometime now I have been having tea but have to admit to making it from teabags and often in a mug but I do have a teapot and have had used it. Its just a basic white one from Tesco but at least it holds enough, stays warm for ages and doesn't dribble."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Afternoon!
Belated birthday wishes to all the birthday girls - hope you had fun!
Back from our wash-out (weatherwise) week in Cornwall, had a glorious day in the garden yesterday, topped off by Pimms in the garden with Mr & Mrs Next Door.
Tea - We have tea at three every day if we can, always from a pot. I hate tea made in the mug, even worse what OH does when he makes himself a cuppa, which is to put the bag and the milk in at the same time - drives me to distraction!. I don't like chunky mugs either, it must be bone china - hark at me, Lady Muck!
Good loose tea is delicious, so many varieties, and worth it for special times. I have a big selection of old cups, saucers and side plates, plus a couple of pots - all from Fleabay or CS, and it's so nice to have a proper afternoon tea with all the frills. A few nice sandwiches, a home made cake or two, a great way to treat someone for not too many pennies.
After the lovely weather yesterday, today has been grey and cold - I am really getting fed up with the weather, so frustrating . Hope you are not under one of them 'Energetic storms' Mar - sounds hairy!Think big thoughts but relish small pleasures0 -
We always had loose tea when I was growing up and it's only very recently that my Mum has had tea bags. The tea leaves are good for the garden or compost heap too and rot down faster without all the little bags.
Cups and saucers are really popular now, there are a couple of new business round here who have bought up all sorts from car boots and CS and now hire them out for parties and afternoon tea etc. might be worth a look at a car boot Fuddle to see if there are any left. Doesn't have to be a set, mismatching is all the rage0 -
Afternoon all
Cranky, hope your day has been a positive one, despite the sad memories - have a dodgy group hug in case you've had a few tears! :grouphug: and an extra cuppa! :coffee:
alfsmum, don't know where you are, but there are a few people round here who loan out old embroidered tablecloths, mismatched crockery, etc., for weddings and the like - it's very tempting to do the same as my mum's got loads of them we could use!
Belated thanks for the birthday wishes, had a lovely day, thank you, and some nice presents from my loved ones! xo

Gone grey and still and weird here - watching the radar. Because we live in among hills when we get thunder it tends to go round and round for ages. And one direct hit by lightning a few years ago melted my Sky box and router, so now I'm careful to unplug them.0
