:j Very pleased about your Mum, ginny, it must be such a relief.
Glad the sunny weather has arrived safely, Mar; I seem to have sent too much as we have intermittant cloud and it isn't nearly as hot as it was yesterday. Errrmm, I couldn't have a little bit back, pls?
Righty, quick omelette and then make a flask and up to the allotmentino. Gonna dig and delve and plant stuff. Heck, there must be a chest of doubloons in there somewhere, not just and endless supply of rusty nails and bits of glass.

Glad to hear your Mum is ok Ginny, my Mum went through the same procedure 25 years ago, luckily the cancer hadn't spread and she didn't need any further treatments.
Well done to all those who are losing weight, I've lost just over half a stone wthi all this kitchen work, probably made up for it last night though by eating my own body weight in pizza.
Kitchen floor is very nearly finished, I've just hand sanded the second varnish coat back slightly for a nice smooth finish, have cleaned it all up and am just about to go do coat number 3.....back breaking work but the result is worth it.
Inbetween jobs this week I phoned TC people who had changed our payment for some unknown reason (even they didn't know why). As its a new tax year we gave them our new figures and they've tripled what they're giving us (it's what I thought it should be according to the TC website). A very, very welcome addition to the monthly income."Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. C. Field.0 -
Mardatha, yes we are in Lincolnshire. Its so cold in the wind, but if you find a shaded area the sun is nice.
Grey queen, have nice time on the lotty. Its nice to eat home grown food, no additives or pestacides makes them taste so much better.
Pooky, I wish we got TC. We are £5 over so none for us, they have 'found' an overpayment for 2 years ago so we now pay that back every month. The floor sounds lovely.

Well done on the weight loss, could you let me have the recipe for the fish please?
Hi Byatt
The recipe is very simple (it's my variation of a Gok Wan recipe).
I crunkle a piece of foil loosely in line my steamer - I have one that fits on all my saucepans. I cut a head of broccoli into smallish florets, ( have used purple sprouting, spring greens, pak choy and green beans) and put them in and top with the fish, curling it round if necessary. I often use a whole trout (deheaded, gutted and fins trimmed), but have used fillets of cod and haddock and even cooked sliced chicken breast. I then slice some fresh ginger into small sticks and sprinkle ove the fish along with a few shredded spring onions. Lastly I put two tablespoons of light soy sauce over everything along with one tablespoon of Chinese cooking wine (you could use dry sherry), and a sprinkling of toasted sesame oil. Lid on and steam until the fish and the greens are cooked. The foil keeps the juices in, which make a lovely broth. I usually eat it out of the foil, which makes serving even easier! With all the variations I never get bored with it, and save me having to think about what to have on a fast day!

Hi Mrs C,

Mrs C - that sounds delish
Ginny - what lovely news
I am amid yet another crisis, my back is playing up but am pushing ahead with shed construction - I managed to get hold of some fixings etc.
Started making a wooden base for it to sit on, DS9 playing on trampoline, starts screaming he has hurt his back, so have packed him off with OH to be checked over just in case.
One car in garage for its electrics so am stuck in house - realise I need more screws for shed base so am stuck waiting:)
Theres never a dull moment certainly0 -
(((((((mar)))))))))) I'll package you some flawless blue sky, hot sun, cherry blossoms and sweeties and send them up to Scotlandshire.
I know Scotland's sons and daughters are a proud and doughty race (used to live there, have many scottish friends) but have you thought about emigrating? Southern Englandshire is particularly fetching at the moment. 20 c. Peeps everywhere, tho.
I work with people who've escaped from the Outer Hebrides, Glasgow and a few other places north of the border. An Aberdonian mate is pulling my chain that when you get independance, I shall have to use my passport to come visit him.My retort is that when Scots get independance, he'll have to apply for a work permit as most of his contracts are sarf of the border. I'm allowed to legpull, as if you rattle my family tree various McSummats fall out. They were reknowned for being brawlers and cattle-thieves.............:rotfl:
Hmm. I expect that's where the red hair, green eyes and freckles come from. I blend quite nicely in Scotland until I open my mouf.
I'm sitting here laughing because I was one who went south and ended up staying for nearly 20 years - every summer I used to wish I was back in the cooler north. I even sat outside in my garden in the rain one hot day. Oh I was so glad of that rain! Now been back north for 3 years so the memories of long relentlessly hot summers and scorched lawns have receded a bit.
This is a good reminder to me not to moan about the rain. If I do, please all kick me up the buttt.:D0 -
Back from a lovely day up the Northumberland Coast. We thought we had all basis covered re: no money. What we didn't think about was car park charges!! Still we found some alright places to park and get out to explore which didn't cost but couldn't access main parts.
Still, fab time and making sure we have more picnic days because we had a hoot and could stay with Alfie, who sat in the open boot waiting for morsels of treats.
I would be telling a fib if I say I didn't drive past the crab sandwich sign all forlawn though.
So tired though, heard my grandma say "it'll be the sea air pet"anyone know why they say that?
Yes, me too. I was told I'd wet the bed if I picked a dandelion. Really interesting to know that they so have an increased urination link even if it's only in animals!0 -
Glad some of you have had some decent weather today, been lovely here, if a bit breezy to take the edge off. Have some bedsheets just about dry on the line, lovely sight!
Fuddle, glad you managed a day out, despite the tight budget, sounds a smashing trip! We went to Northumberland for a few days some years ago, went to Bamburgh Castle, Alnwick, walked along the frozen beach (late in the year, cheap hols!), went to Holy Island, etc., love our east coast. Don't know why the sea air makes you tired, but it does, and my older rellies (including dad who was a seafaring man all his life) said the same!
Ginny, so glad about your mum's good news, bet it's a relief for you all.
I've done some proper tidying and cleaning yesterday and today, for the first time in AGES, must be feeling better! :rotfl: Have filled 3 bin bags for the tip, nearly 2 for the CS, de-spidered and cleaned the hallway, and mostly cleaned the bathroom. Just got to put the sheets back on the beds and I'll have earned a glass of the wine that's been in the fridge for a fortnight!

Dandelions and lettuce will make you wee if you eat enough - in fact a lot of greens will - I know on my fast days, after lots of greens, I have to get up at least three times in the night
