Motorists - What annoys you most about cyclists

doesnt really matter.
you can drive/cycle/walk round Edinburgh any day,and see drivers driving into the ASL
Yes, your right - same in my town, although we only have two junctions with ASLs. They get a warning, and advised that a repetition by the same vehicle or company will put three points on the driver's licence.
The van in question is Met anyway, they don't count!;)Make everything as simple as possible, but not simpler.0 -
Sorry but I haven't got time to read through all 18 pages but I've noticed a trend of cyclists coming down Styal Road on my way home. One cyclist causes a car pile up of around 10-15 cars every night at around 5.45. We all crawl at 10 miles an hour if we're lucky for a good 5 minutes.
I cycle myself and jump on the pavement where I can to let cars get past etc. What's the general rule? I find myself getting really annoyed and think they're being selfish as there are times when they could cross the road and use the empty pavement rather than cause such a jam.0 -

what would be the legality of that move?0 -
The cyclist is riding perfectly legally and as drivers you should stay behind until it is safe for you to overtake. Cyclists riding on the pavement (as many on this and similar threads point out) is illegal. Are you advocating that the cyclist should break the law just to let a small queue of cars past?
If this is Styal Road in Manchester then 10 mph is close to your average speed for the journey home 12.6 MPH quoted here
Remember that it's cars that cause the congestion in the first place, not cyclists.

What annoys me most about cyclists?
They keep getting run over by cars and dying or injured.0 -

I don't know but I do it to be courteous to the 15 cars that would be idling along behind me.
Remember that I drive this route home everynight and if there aren't any cyclists there is no congestion 99.9% of the time.Dave_C wrote:

As a cyclist and a driver, I really would feel selfish making cars queue behind me whilst I cycle along and delay people's journeys. I presume I'm in the minority, which baffles me.0 -
All he has to do is occassionally stop onto the pavement, standing (not cycling) on the pavement. It's the same courtesy you would expect from any slow road user, tractor, horse rider. caravan, HGV, etc.
Unfortunately most of them don't do it.
And, yes, I do it, when I am a slow road user, when my car is coughing and spluttering home, or I am towing a trailer, or I am on a moped, whatever the scenario, when I know I am causing a significant tailback I will take 60 seconds out of my journey to pull over.0 -
Pavement cycling can lead to a £500 fine or a £30/60 fixed penalty ticket, however guidance says these should only be issued if the cyclist is causing problems for pedestrians. The cyclists is sticking to the Highway Code.I cycle myself and jump on the pavement where I can to let cars get past etc. What's the general rule?
