It is just the glass that is being replaced as the frames are in good order according to the DG gent.

The units that are going to be replaced are, according to the DG gent who called to estimate the job, were about 20 years old, as they do not display the Kitemarks of the present day ones.

He did all his measurements from outside the property, and asked for the windows to be opened to measure the thickness.

Kind regards and many thanks for your input

Just posting a follow-up to this post.

Today the DG gent arrived to replace 14 units, as per quotation, three hours later and after doing what looks to be an excellent job, he left.

We are delighted with the end result and feel that it has all been worthwhile and the costing came in at just under £900 incl VAT with all guarantees of 10 years

Thanks to all who gave their comments

    Kind regards
    Bob

    Excellent news!
  • I've been following this thread with interest as we have a similar issue, glad to see you've had it resolved for a very reasonable price!
  • We had one double glazed window that was misted and had condensation between the glass panes and we used a local company called Ideal Window Solutions who removed the moisture and the windows were as good as new. We found them via Checkatrade, they've got a video on the website which shows you the process, all I know is that it was a lot cheaper than replacing the windows.
    Good luck whatever you decide!

Since this was lifted to the top by Katie I thought I'd just pass comment on my own situation.

We have lived in this property for 17 years, ever window and door was replaced 16 years ago with the exception of 2 massive bay windows to the front, they must have been changed a few years before we moved in.

In those last 16 years I have had to replace about 75% of the DG panels, those not replaced now need doing.

Not 1 of the bay window panes shows any sign of "fogging"

The difference being the front windows are quality joiner made Mahogany frames, they don't move with the sun.;)
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed
