So you have lost £80? Tough luck. My sympathy is for people who have lost a lot more than that.

They apparently don't have a clue how much they might lose. Its changed every time they've mentioned it.

When did this happen - todays news said still accepted - although it did say "for now".

A few weeks ago i spoke to someone saving vouchers for M&S. I said it was never a good idea to hang onto gift cards/vouchers anymore - just get shut ASAP.

I stick mine on Ebay if i can't find anything i want.

Although gift vouchers can be dangerous I would say M&S ones will be one of the safest ones you can get! It would be a major shock if they went to the wall

  • So, it's nearly 10am. What's the actual situation in the stores this morning, has anyone actually been to a Comet store today?
    - vouchers / no vouchers accepted?
    - deliveries possible or no deliveries?
    - discounting (firesale per the national press) or not?
  • The Maidstone Comet store opened at 9am. There is NO firesale in store as widely reported on the news.

I'm about to go see if my local store is open. I'll report back later lol

Thanks Suzy : what did Maidstone say about vouchers? (if you had any)
  • I just came back from the Manchester Fort store. They were open, not much was discounted & they were only accepting Cash & Credit/Debit cards for payment.
  • Heard on sky news that someone couldn't use his vouchers

Same here. Went to the massive branch in Mansfield and it was so busy. Not much was on offer. Felt sorry for the staff because there were queues waiting just to talk to them.

Big sign up at the door apologising for only being able to accept cash & debit and credit cards at the moment.

I asked a staff member who was very nice considering how busy they were. Now, I'm partially deaf so this isn't verbatim but he said the system can't accept gift vouchers/credit notes at the minute. Nobody's quite sure what's going on or when they will be able to accept gift cards. He said they'll know more when the administrators come in.

I ended up going into the South Harrow/Ruislip branch to see if I could use my £250 voucher. They were not accepting vouchers/replacement cards and knew nothing about a flash sale.
Fingers crossed there is an opportunity to use the vouchers still.

There was a poor lady in front of me who had ordered a laptop online recently and hadn't received it. She had paid on her debit card, and was asking if she could just have a refund or even exchange and get something for her money while she still could. They said no to this request.

I wish I had heard about this when it first happened - I just found out today. I would have gone in and used my voucher immediately!
