Yes you have to feel for the staff. Imagine how they feel all these people moaning they wont be getting their goods.....
They have lost their jobs and have to put up with idiots shouting at them for something that is not their fault..
I do have some sympathy for the staff (I was made redundant from my last job), but can also imagine I'd be pretty annoyed if I'd paid hundreds of pounds for something and I was unlikely to get it and, possibly, lose the money too.

Well the writing was on the wall when dixon's old boss was appointed to turn them round....
Now what happened to dixons... Oh yea. No longer going. Its now currys/pc world.

Just to clarify some points. Dixons trades as a Airport / Duty Free Only part of Dixons Retail.
The Dixons.co.uk website was removed as everything was available on the Currys website so the decision was made to reduce the UK websites to partmaster, PcWorld, Currys and to a certain extent Pixmania (now they properly own that) along with the KnowHow website and their corporate site.
The Dixons stores were all transformed into Currys.Digital stores.

The above actions were all part of John Browlett and Sebastion James actions, not John Clare (though he did do the Curry.Digital bit but was forced out by refusing to change with the times)

Also, to say internet business is killing Brick and Mortar stores, is banded around a lot, but do you know PcWorld and Currys outsell Amazon on electrical items in the UK?

It's truly the multi channel business that will survive. And PcWorld/Currys understood that more than Comet did. Not only did Dixons Retail have a better range of product, they priced competively(sp) , entered agreements with brands, got exclusivity deals with big brands (Apple) and increased their customer service and spent money on training and bringing all their call centres and repair agents in house under the KnowHow brand, so no longer were the call centres being paid on how many calls they could complete but how incentives were given to the agents on how many times the customer had to call back because their issue wasn't addressed or palmed off.

The death call of Comet may of been lack of supplier insurance, but the writing was on the wall well before then.
  • As of 12 noon Saturday 3rd administarters will be taking over the day to running of all comet stores.
However it will be open business as usual.

I would recommend that if you have got any vouchers get in store tommorow.

Sorry, no vouchers for me. I'd be surprised if they were honoured considering its now run by administrators.

Called them a few times, and it seems they have received my order back. Now it's just a matter of waiting for them to put the refund through PayPal... I'm not feeling very hopeful.

Do I have any faith in my local store being open tomorrow ?

Actually Lauraeva, Comet is already in administration. It was brought forwards, and the reason they opened later (1pm) was because the staff were being informed of what was happening and then Deloitte shut the stores about 3pm to consider what the best options were going forwards.

breesey24 you will be fine in terms of warranty, the 5 year term is supplied by a trust fund or a insurance company.

And Robb5810 if you look on the guardian website I believe there's a retail analyst saying the same thing, Comets service has slipped and their stores look pretty soulless, while the Currys in the same retail park have revamped stores and greatly improved their customer service and offers.

You do realise the difference between a Trust and an Insurance Underwritten Policy is?

The trust can only pay claims all the time it has new money coming in from the Company. If they go belly up ala Comet then the money stops coming in and at some point they will stop paying claims.

An Insurance underwritten Policy for personal Insurance means valid claims are cast iron guaranteed to be paid even if the Insurer goes bankrupt.

Ones guaranteed to pay valid claims, the other only can while it has new money coming in from the Company.
