Apparently some customers are so angry at perhaps not receiving their goods that the police were called to one of the stores.

Probably 21Twinkle, though the manufacturers can refuse service to you as you have no legal contract with them.

Don't know when the firesale might start, it might be over the weekend with OpCapita deciding Comets a lost cause and to squeeze as much money out of the business before they go bust or after Deloitte are appointed and no one offers to buy them out.
  • I have contacts who work at the distribution centre at Skem.

From what I can make out, I'd be trying to visit any local stores in hope they're open to redeem vouchers etc, you're going to be out of luck come the close of today.

Staff walking out, staff at head office all told they're out of a job - now's the time to get any credit spent (if you can) and if not, it's a lesson in buying on a credit card so you can chargeback if it goes wrong.

There was a bit of a yob-mob forming outside my local store this morning - I don't see the point, just mindless people being idiots.

Just been to my local store to redeem my Comet insurance replacement card and it is still shut, with a note saying it will open at 5pm now.. There was a nice angry mob outside expecting it to be open at 1pm which made life more interesting.

I can't believe any staff will turn up for work, so I imagine I'm !!!! out of luck really.

Talk to the insurance company, not sure if they're tied to Comet or not.

If they are, I'm afraid you're stuffed. Can't imagine them opening at 5.

Official policy earlier today was to "try and use the voucher by the 5th Nov".. Think I'm royally stuffed..

  • just happened to drive past our local Comet this morning and saw a group of 20+ people waiting outside and clutching papers - probably receipts for orders placed and paid for. There were also 2 police officers, presumably store staff had called them out in anticipation.

Feel so sorry for the staff of any company that goes bust. It's often the case that any business can keep afloat in boom times but if they can't adapt and/or diversify in leaner times they will go down. That's the difference between excellent and mediocre senior/executive management .
  • Just been past my local Comet which is shut and about 10 people standing beside the doors shouting!
My mum bought a new TV from there about 2 months ago and (stupidly) bought a 5 year warranty with it, will the insurance underwriter be honouring these or are these 'in-house' with Comet (ie not a seperat company)

Stores are not opening at 5 as I just found out when I went to my local one ;) Sign saying they will be open tomorrow. Which is a pain seeing as I have to wait in for a tradie.
  • Just saw its been confirmed they have entered administration

Read your (or your mum's) documentation to find the answer to that.

Yes you have to feel for the staff. Imagine how they feel all these people moaning they wont be getting their goods.....
They have lost their jobs and have to put up with idiots shouting at them for something that is not their fault..
