I do need some advice/help. The title says a lot but not all. I need advice whether or not to take out an advert in a neighbour's former hometown (where he left behind debts amounting to thousands) informing his former townies that he is due to appear in court in his current hometown charged with theft/burglary from a neighbour!!!

Why would you want to inform the people in the town where he used to live about this? Is there a genuine need or reason to do this, or are you just doing it because his actions have left a nasty taste in some people's mouths? If it's the first reason, then go for it (although be aware that if he's let off in court you could find yourself in trouble for libel). If it's the second reason, then just leave well enough alone - people's crimes do tend to get found out anyway, without outside help.
Also, if you're thinking that there's a chance that people might be able to use his previous crimes against him in this case then I wouldn't bother. If it's been reported to the police then it'll all be there for the courts to see, and if it hasn't then there's no way (I don't think) that it will be able to be used as evidence in this court case.0 -
What on earth do you need advice for? I wouldn't even contemplate this.0

No, what goes around comes around, he will get his punishment sooner or later, but you could land yourself in bother for such behaviour, not worth the bother imho, just keep your doors and windows locked.;)Member of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19

Thank you for the comments. Seems there is a little truth in the statement 'who ever said crime doesn't pay?'0

Why would a newspaper take the advert ?.................
....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)0 -
Why would it not? As an item in Public Notices?0
