£5 back shopping at local shops with AMEX

Options
Haven't seen this on this forum, but it is elsewhere on the site.

Starting tomorrow you can get £5 back on spend at selected merchants when you register here.

https://enroll.amexnetwork.com/GB/en/ShopSmallUK2012/

Once registered you can see a map of participating merchants. They are supposed to be small local shops but quite a few are franchises of larger chains. Similar deals apparently will appear on the foursquare app tomorrow.

This almost seems to be too good to be true, I thought it would be London centric, but the list includes all my local takeaways etc, so I have signed up:money:

    NOTHING in Glasgow...bah!
  • Looks like an England only offer ;)
  • I tried a few places from the Shop Small map on Amex website and most of them refused to accept Amex. In one place I was told that I would need to pay an extra 1 pound on top of my shopping for using a credit card.

I believe that this map shows places that are part of Shop Small campaign but this does not mean they accept Amex or are aware of this promotion.

Please report any places where you have managed to take advantage of this promotion otherwise it would be nothing more than a confusing marketing gimmick with a bit of embarrassment attached to it .

Signed up yesterday and looked at the list of shops in my area. Boy was the website slow. I was surprised by the shops that came up because there was only one that I knew took Amex. I also got a flyer in the post from Amex and it says to look for the sign / sticker in the window saying the shop is taking part in the scheme.

Tried the shop locator website last night and it wasn't working :(

    Not a good start.

Nothing in Wales, just seems to be random places in England...

Good idea though and thanks SimonGregson for letting us know!

The website isn't great but if you use a specific post code and sort by distance it seems to work reasonably well. Have now lined up a potential £15 worth for this weekend and already called to confirm the curry house accept Amex
