He should be able to turn the beeper off. On most coaches I've been on they've had a button to turn it off. I notice strange things. :p Ask him or leave a note to do that, then it inconveniences neither of you. :)

Not a recovery truck by any chance? Different rules apply....
Yes it's overwhelming, but what else can we do?

Have you thought about complaining to your local council if you don't want to confront him yourself? They can't do much as noise from a vehicle doesn't come under their remit but where it is regular occurrence they might be willing to write to the owner of the vehicle advising him that he is causing a nuisance. It depends on the environmental health department of your council.
If its a company vehicle you also try try contacting the company direct. They might have a word with the driver. But like other people have suggested I would try confronting the driver. He may well not realise he is causing a problem. Its amazing how many people make a load of noise and are ignorant to the problems they are causing. Its just whether you think you will make the problem worse by talking to him.
  • Does he leave the sidelights on?, it has to be lit in the dark if parked on a public road, a complaint to the police* should see a parking ticket issued for no lights and an end to the problem, as few lorries will stand being parked for hours with side lights on.

    * if the old bill can't be bothered which i fully expect, write a letter to the new police Tsar for your area when elected stating that an unlit commercial vehicle poses a danger to other road users and you'll be holding him/her responsible when someone gets hurt, he/she is going to be on £60 to £100k salary plus perks, they might as well do something useful.

Your neighbor is committing an offence under road vehicles construction and use regulations 1986 by sounding a horn between 11.30pm and 7.00am.

A simple call to the police should resolve this.

Why would you call the police before talking to the guy?

The OP asked about alternative options 'aside of talking to the guy' as he states he never sees the guy during the day. He could of course leave a note on the windscreen of the truck if the opportunity arises.

    Our coaches/lorries do, too.

I've often got one or the other parked to the rear of my house; the council and my operators license allow this, however.....

Tax disc not on display, side lights not on, etc....Everyone's trying to find faults with the vehicle, doesn't really help much... this guy has to park somewhere and where ever he parks somebody will be inconvenienced & this guy is apparently parked legally....
If it's a large vehicle in the early hours of the morning, turning the reverse sensors off may not be viable.

Maybe this is just one of those things in life we can't control and just have to get on with...

Maybe the guy is not considering the residents and can turn his reversing alarm off or fit a switch and then they would not have to just live with it.
