Best budget Android phone?
Hi,
I'd like to get a phone for my mum's birthday next month, she wants it exclusively for:
I've been looking at the Huwaei G300 (£99) which looks to be a fantastic phone, and runs a recent version of Android which to be honest is very tempting. Not sure whether to try and stretch the budget to the new Nexus 4 (£239) but that could potentially be overkill for her.
Any recommendations would be very welcome, thanks!

All answers on this forum are the same Huawei G300, apparently available for £66 from very0

Superb, thanks! I'm already a member of Very so wouldn't be able to get the phone for £66, but even at £99 it's the best value then?
Thinking I need one for my girlfriend, and my girlfriend's dad too, so potentially 3 purchases coming up0 -

Any members of the household (obvioulsy not your mum if it is to be a present!) who aren't Very credit customers? But, like you say, it's a brilliant phone even at £99 rrp.
PS Be careful, this phone is addictive, IIRC there are now 8 or 9 members of my family/friends with the G300. We call it the 'family phone'0 -

Well use isme.co.uk, same company different site. Same phone at £99 but there are £30 codes off £60 purchase there too (possibly 293GV ?) if you open an account there - if it doesn't work have a look around the web.
Also other people in the family can open accounts for the discounts.
Also if you don't already have one, open a free account with Topcashback, go to isme/very via Topcashback for another 7 or 8% back.
There was a rumour that Asda had the G300 for £80 in store but not had anyone able to confirm that.European for 3 weeks in August, the rest of the year only British and proud.0 -

yesterday I had half an hour to kill waiting, then remembered my phone, sat watching some of the movie Prometheus I had on it, very enjoyable on a 4" screen.European for 3 weeks in August, the rest of the year only British and proud.0 -
G300 seems to be the best buy even at £99. Be careful of using Very and other sister compines codes found on voucher sites as they and sister companies are known to claim these back if used incorrectly months after the event.
With the Nexus 4 coming in sim free at £234 it will be interesting to see if the price of phones like the galaxy ace 2 comes down in price closer to the £100 mark.
Also there was a suggestion that Sainsbury was doing the G300 for £99 which could be got down to £88 with a voucher for new customers.0 -
Not familiar with Huawei's phones.
Since every body here recommend it, should it be worthy of you to get one?0 -

I get what you are saying but if the OP was going to pay £100 for it anyway it's not really a risk.0 -
Bought mine with the Tesco offer/glitch for £65 and am very happy with it. Super little phone and it's very easy to see and use (and I'm 65, so need visibility). My first smartphone. I wouldn't have gone with the Very offer though. I also bought a great cover for it off Amazon, although I don't think you need the plastic screen cover as this has a pretty good screen, I understand. Huawei are a Chinese company, but it's very solid and well-made and well-designed.0

I agree, only mentioned to make OP aware. Also there has been a suggestion of a problem with blobs on the screen on some of these. Not sure is its an isolated batch or not.
In view of above not sure of Very's return policy etc.
I have a £20 genuine voucher code for Very and am tempted by the phone but Very's reputation and alleged potential problems with phone are putting me off.0
