Back to the subject - HETAS can be pretty useless - they take our money and do very little for it - however, they do seem lately to actually be getting shot of some of the cowboys who managed to get HETAS registered and who give the industry a bad name. OH recently had to submit a report on a HETAS installers job which was so bad he condemned the whole installation. Thankfully that particular installer who had been trading for years and had a dreadful reputation has now lost his registration.

Another "luxury" barn conversion OH was called out to inspect as the stove wasnt working well horrified him. The builders had used three different material systems to install the stove which ended with a bit of stove pipe sticking out of the roof. Horrifying.

They are also keen to hear of any unregistered persons installing stoves - which is in fact illegal - so contact them anyway with these people's details.

Meanwhile, trading standards could be useful allies and buildings control should be involved.

I am guessing that if the job is done this badly then you have not been supplied with an approved carbon monoxide monitor in the house?
