Can i ask a hopefully not too silly question?

What are Advents? From what I can make out they appear to be a daily run throughout December!

From the sounds of it there are quite a lot as well! :j

I missed last year completely as took 9mth off to foster 2 babies under two, but now I only have a 13 year old at school all day I might attempt them this year as long as I don't take anymore little ones.

I just wanted to remind "oldies" and warn "newbies" that the period between Xmas and New Year is very, very quiet for comping.

Last year on the 1st-2nd December, as well as advents to enter, there were 911 new comps posted. From 25th-31st December when the advents had just about finished, there were only 720 new comps posted over the whole 7 days. (For comparison, 208 comps were posted yesterday).

For the first couple of weeks in December, I put all comps ending 31/12 or later in bookmarks/favourites and save these until after Christmas Eve before entering. This frees up enough time to do the advents and all the other comps I normally do, and also means I have plenty of comping to do after Christmas.

Incidentally - The Times ran hourly comps on Christmas Eve & Christmas Day last year

What a great idea one-eye! :j Think I'll have a go at doing it your way!
:TA big thanks to all who post and sprinkling lucky dust to all who enter :smileyhea

How are you going to handle the advents?

The previous 2 years I haven't managed to keep up with them at all. I've had a long break from comping (almost a year!) and want to be more organised and do some advents now that I am back comping.

This is my plan, does it sound feasable?

I comp by end date and am currently working 2 days ahead. I want to keep this up through Nov/Dec. I do 1 day, every day, so for example tomorrow(Sunday!) I will do all of the comps for Tuesday, then I will go back and check to make sure I haven't missed any comps ending on Monday (the red cross is invaluable for this!)
Once I have finished that each day, I am working through Decembers comps. I started at the 1st and am slowly working my way through (depending on how much time I have) to get ahead of the game.
I plan on making a document in Word with a clickable links to all of the advents I want to enter. I feel this will be quicker than using the advents thread as I usually don't want to enter them all (I'll make sure to leave my thanks though ;) ). After I have done my normal comping each day in December (which I hope will be quick due to getting a head start now!) I will do the advents using the clickable links.
    Can you see any pitfalls?

    TIA

The problem with only working 2 days ahead for me is when you hit the end of the month.
There are usually at least 50 pages of comps ending on the last day of the month and if for some reason you find little time for comping over those two days you soon end up behind again. Or like with me at times the sheer volume of comps on the months end can be off putting in it's self.

I try to stay 7 days in front, so when I get to the months end I have a week to work through all of them.

Just to add, Personally I just bookmark the Advents I want to enter into their own subsection.

I would add that my document is in Excel, with a link to the comp and a link to the thread and marked weekly, daily etc.

Using excel sounds like a good idea!
I always have trouble with the end of month comps, I don't think I ever get through them all. I might try and do a few of them now too and be very selective lol!!

OMG They are getting closer! I am trying really hard to keep up to date with MSE at the moment so when the Advents do start I will not be too overwhelmed!

I have also almost finished my Christmas shopping and wrapped it up - so one more less thing to do! :j

So I am looking forward to the Advents starting and trying to think positive! I survived last year - so I can do it this year! Spreading positivity among my MSE friends!

PS I hope you all have your Advent calendars ready - I keep mine by my laptop so I can enjoy a little sweet treat when I log on daily! :rotfl:
