Have to say it has never occurred to me to tip, in the same way I wouldn't tip any delivery driver. It has never occurred to tip takeaway delivery people either - not that we get takeaways more than about 4 times a year (if that) - feel really tight now :o

I do give my postman a Christmas tip but only because he's regular and comes to my house (almost!) every day.

One of my mates delivers for Ocado, and he has to keep to some pretty tight schedules, and deliver to some pretty obscure places, with bad/no parking or high up in blocks of flats. Sometimes his deliveries involve as many as a dozen pallettes of stuff.
He reckons that only the people who live in "better" areas tip him, because they realise that it can be a difficult job.
Why would you tip a witress and not a delivery driver, I always tip the Indian guy when they deliver my takeaway.

I tip my Takeaway delivery driver however I've not paid near on £5 already for the delivery in the 1st place...

There are a few takeaways round our area and a particular delivery driver from one of them would still hang around after you had given him the amount for the curry, we reckoned he was waiting for a tip. Hubby always used to go to the door, but never gave him anything.

I went to the door once when he delivered and I just gave him the takeaway money and said "thank you, goodnight" and closed the door. Haven't seen him for a while actually.

FYI it wasn't in a nasty way!

Try sitting next to a toilet to eat your lunch with customers staring at you and informing you how nice your food looks, playing tetris with 156 bags in a space meant for about 100, cleaning up sick and rubbish, being a nurse when needed, serving food and drink, smiling and nodding when you are being shouted at and abused for things that are aren't in your control.... No, I don't get tips either.

What is she supposed to do? A little thank you dance by the front door? Get on her hands and knees and pray to the Gods of fast food delivery?
A 'thank you' followed by 'goodnight' seems a perfectly reasonable way to accept a takeaway delivery to me.
  • I don't tip the delivery driver on the odd occasion I get my shopping delivered because I know from working in the supermarket that if found out the delivery driver could face a disciplinary.
I think facing losing your job for the sake of £1 isn't really worth it to me

I drive for a supermarket. I don't expect tips. I do get tips and I do accept them.
I've been doing the job for almost 2.5 years and one thing is very clear, it's not the people with the big expensive houses that give tips. They are the only one's that have ever asked me for a refund if we're running late.
The people in smaller houses are the one's that give tips and that don't kick up a fuss if we're running late. I think there's a message there.
I went to a house the other day and put the customer's shopping in the fridge and freezer for them as they were disabled. I did'nt expect a tip but they gave me £2. If they had'nt have given me a tip I would'nt have been bothered.

That you don't get rich by giving your money away? Shocking that! ;)
