Do you tip everyone you encounter who has a stressful job on minimum wage?
If they are in a post where they are able to accept a tip (or other show of appreciation) then, yes, I will.MartinSmythe wrote: »Why would you tip? That's like giving your hard-earned money to someone unnecessarily. Heck, it's not like, it simply is. This makes no sense.
Because I have a choice and I choose to show my appreciation of their difficult and stressful (minimum wage) job by giving them a tip.
Why does that make no sense to you - it's perfectly reasonable to me... I have a choice and I choose to tip.:hello:0 -
When we had snow earlier in the year and I couldn't get out I ordered a delivery from Tesco, the delivery driver was lovely, helpful and polite and I tried to give him a fiver tip but he wouldn't take it saying 'No love it's my job'
Bet he wished he had after it took him at least 20 minutes to drive off with keep having to dig his wheels out
That is the only time I've tried to tip for a supermarket delivery though0 -
I'd considered a Christmas tip for my Ocado driver, but as I have a different driver every week there is no consistency there so I'm not sure what to do at this stage.
I don't tip my weekly driver though.0 -

It does start to create an expectation though, and then everyone starts to wonder if they 'should' or if they're mean for not doing.
Better to just pay everybody a decent wage in the first place.0 -
My elderly aunt uses Sainsburys telephone shopping and she did try to give the very helpful delivery driver a tip but he refused, saying that he wouldn't dream of taking her money and that he wasn't allowed to accept tips anyway. He brings her shopping into her kitchen after carrying it up the stairs (no lift) and he stays while she checks her receipt. Now, she always gives him a cake or biscuit which he says that he eats during his tea break. (He may well bin it but it keeps her happy!
)
I do always tip the pizza delivery guy. One of our friends did pizza deliveries for a while when he was out of work and he said that it is a horrid job, there is always someone who won't pay or who tries to haggle over the price at the door. I don't mind a couple of quid, it saves me having to go out in the cold!"I may be many things but not being indiscreet isn't one of them"0 -
It never crossed my mind..... ever!
Just out of interest, how much do people tip? A proportion of the total bill (as in a restaurant)? I wouldn't even know where to start.......:happyhear0 -
no i dont id never considered it before i read this thread.Jan 2015 GC £267/£260
Feb 2015 GC /£2600 -
Why would you tip a witress and not a delivery driver.
Delivery driver is hardly comparable, you just drive a var/car for a bit and park near someones house and give them the stuff. Sounds pretty relaxing as far as jobs go.
Running round after demanding hungry customers for several consecutive hours sounds like a crap job.0 -
No, it has never occured to me to do it before, until I read this. I've already paid the (up to £6) delivery charge and that's it. I don't think the drivers expect it. I have never tipped my postman (I used to give him a christmas tip, but I don't think that's allowed anymore), or my City Link, DHL or whatever driver, so I'm not about to start now. I think just a friendly face and some idle chit chat will suffice.
Plus have you ever considered that the driver could get into trouble for receiving tips if his employers find out?Striving to clear the mortgage before it finishes in Dec 2028 - amount currently owed - £26,322.670 -

You choose to give your money away when you don't have to.
I think this is the wrong forum for you.

If I CHOOSE to tip, burn or bury my money then it is MY choice - it's legal so live with it!
The OP asked the question and I answered - nothing for you to worry yourself about.:hello:0
