Cost of child-care makes working pointless for all but the most well paid mothers

We don't value those that look after children. If you look at earnings, those who look after children are paid very poorly, which is bizzare considering how important this is!
My wife would love to work with children - she is a PA at present but can't afford to HALF her wage in order to look after human beings rather than piles of paper!
presumably she has written to her MP saying how willing she is to pay a lot more taxes in order for people who work with children to be paid much much more.0 -

One tongue in cheek comment on the internet doesn't make the UK a nation of child haters.
As the 'butt' of that particular comment, I would agree.
I am (self confessed) an extreme 'outlier' on the subject of kids. I think it's because I had parents that brought me up to 'behave' when outside or in company [and to a degree in the house of course]. I may have sulked at the time, but overall it did me good.
But I try to avoid very young children at all costs. Toddlers playing 'hide and seek' noisily in a pub/restaurant are so common these days. Kids allowed to "screach" at the toip of their voices (as if being murdered) constantly in public is a noise [to me] far worse than fingernails on a blackboard etc.
Deep down, I know it's the uncontrolling parents that I despise, but kids are the symptom. Same thing as 'hating' the low interest rates one gets at the local bank, but it's just a symptom of 13 years of Blair/Brown government that I despise.
I could [and did] avoid having my own kids. I can't avoid other peoples when out.0 -
suffer little children
kids, badly brought up or otherwise, grow up and become doctors, dentists, utility workers, handypeople, supply chain workers, police, MPs, grumpy old men/women etc
be grateful that they will look after even people who 'used' to hate them0 -
The underclass are the ones mostly breeding out if control feral children - vile nasty underclass who don't work, overweight, unhealthy junk food addicts - they look inbred0

I bet the ones who had a decent upbringing Are more likely to be little doctors or dentists.0 -

definitionally probably true
but the general comments about 'hating' children for their being noisy etc affects all classes of people.
the noise level of children is pretty independant of class although their language may reflect their up bringing0 -

I don't like paying as much tax as I do, but of all the reasons why, that one doesn't even register on the radar.
The old of today have paid in all their lives expecting a pension and healthcare to be there. It should be there. End of story.
I don't expect to get the same benefits, and am planning accordingly.
But I don't resent paying for todays pensioners to get what they are owed.
Yeah, you are one of the world's great philanthropists.
I've always thought that.0 -

not quite!
Seriously, it shows the state of the nation by paying people a pittance to care for children/vulnerable people. Suppose this is all minced in with values generally... ie people are paid £100,000 a week to kick a football where the outcome does not matter, but if you put your life on the line, or do things which actually benefit society you'd be lucky to get a few hundred...0 -

the nation is made up of people like you.
many nurseries are funded by the parents of the children.
are you saying that they should be prepared to pay massively more or are you saying that the tax payer should pay a lot more or simply lamenting that most people in practice act just like you.0
