making a vast profit, i think £30+ an hour for plumbing is a fair price bearing in mind that the guy isn't going to earn that every hr of every day of every wk so his actual wages are going to be alot less than that, .

My plumber does full working week, works monday to friday. Sometimes weekends. However i do have a 2 week wait for any work. And i am a regular.

Thats another thing i am not too keen on. Paying a trade for there holidays lol. i relize its got to be factored in. but its getting a balance.
  • Thanks everyone for the replies even though the last 2 pages have gone a little off track!!!

I'm going to call the British Gas in the next few days and find out about the property and whether the connection has been used. Am I well within my rights to do so even though I don't own the property yet?

Hi Mrs richyuk and myself have done this twice over the last 6 years the first time in 2006 there was night storage heaters and a new Baxi 105e with 6 double convector rads, 1 towel rail with thermostatic valves, electronic Heating controls and all copper pipe was £2000, and this year in our new house we had a Baxi 40l duo-tec with 8 double convector rads with thermostatic valves, electronic Heating controls and all copper pipe was £2800. The guys that fitted them were different. One bit off advice I would say is when getting quotes explain that whilst they will order all materials you will pay for them on your credit card direct to the supplier this means not only do you get sec 75 protection on the goods but it stops any mark up and means you only pay for labour which is easier to compare quotes. Be prepared though it is a messy job with chasing all the walls and such it should take about a week to complete depending on how many people are on the job. I live in North Yorkshire

Thanks - ideally we'd have some of the pipes chased in but depending on costs we may have to box some in, which I guess should anything go wrong these would be much easier to fix.

We had a similar situation but with 11 radiators.

We used mybuilder.com and got loads of companies bidding for the job. Lowest price was around £1850 with a cheap boiler. But we went with a new company who supplied and fitted 11 radiators, a baxi a rated condensing combi with wireless control for £2400. Very pleased with it too.

That's a very good price still though I hope ours is around that amount which seems possible considering you've had 11 radiators for that price.

I don't know if this is of any use to you but a friend got a new boiler from this scheme.

It has probably finished but there might be something similar available.

I'll look in to that scheme thanks.
