Semi detached - 3 Beds needs Central heating

Hello all
We're going through the stages of purchasing a property at the moment, it's perfect for us, or will be in time shall I say.
At the moment It's got gas to the property (which is just a pipe that finishes under the stairs) and no central heating, just the old storage heaters.
Now I'm just wondering how much a central heating system would cost and what I should be expecting to pay? We live in Norfolk if that makes any difference.
So far I'm thinking in terms of radiators;
Downstairs
Living room x1
Dining/kitchen x1
Bathroom x1 (towel rail)
Upstairs
Landing x1
All 3 bedrooms x1
So say 7 in total plus the cost of the boiler (is combi the best option here?) and the work involved and whatever needs to be done to the gas supply in to the house.
Look forward to your replies.
Many thanks

how long is a piece of string ? get at least 3 quotes, rad sizes will depend on the room sizes & heat loss factors no one on here can give you a price, it's just like phoning someone up & saying give me a price without them seeing the job it will either be way over the top or too low & you will end up paying extra's
as a very very rough ball park figure i would say somewhere between £3k-£5k plus getting the gas supply re-instatedI'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.
You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.0 -

Norfolk...lovely part of the world. You need to get in an RGI recommended to you by a source you trust to conduct a site survey and discuss your requirements. Whether a combi is appropriate depends on mains supply to the property and whether you intend to extend/add ensuite/another bathroom. More advice is available here.
P.S. For your peace of mind/privacy, you might want to delete the link to your new home.

If the meter has been removed then the chances are that the service has been capped off outside in the road. They will not reinstate to the pipe inside the property im afraid. It will be to a new meter housing on the outside of the property.0

I've deleted the link now. Thanks for reminding me!
OK so Ziggy would that mean new pipes will have to be laid from the gas mains to our property?
Southcoastgri - Thanks for the ball park figure that's what I was looking for. Once we move in I'll have installers come around and quote me.0 -
Your first step would be to request for a meter to be fitted via a gas supplier. They will auto check the database which will hopefully flag whether the service is live or dead. If there is any doubt, they may initiate a live/dead check with the Distribution Network Operator.
If it is dead, you may well have to pay the costs for a new service.
As soon as you are the owners of this property, you need to initiate this as it wont happen quickly !
Check with current owners when gas was last used.
Is there a capped valve on the pipe/any labelling?Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0 -
We have been in a not dis similar situation our house was 2 bed and night storage heaters with just gas supplying the cooker...
Our first quote was from British Gas...understand they are expensive but we needed a point to start at in order to find out what we wanted matched what was available....
We required 7 radiators of various sizes
replacing of lead pie work with copper
a worcester 30 DCi boiler
Heating controls and thermostats
Hot and cold to the new bathroom and utility area which wasnt there previously
Ugrade of the gas supply from meter to kitchen and boiler
It was also importnant that as many pipes as possible were concealed
The BG quote came in at £7400
Next we approached 2 local firms, one who was a recommendation from our builder and the other a medi7um sized company in the town...
Both quotes turned out similar and eventually we chose the one we felt understood what we wanted to achieve and took time to listen to how we wanted the system to run....Total price £6250
Every house is different and every company who will come to quote you will probably tell you something different, its just a case of explaining what you need and hopefully getting them to create it..
I am aware that my concealed pipes have added to the cost considerably but in my mind it was a price worth paying...in the same way I'm sure you've read the other threads here where people have chosen lower quality boilers to reduce the cost....these are all factors to consider but if you do intend to keep the property for some time then its best to go for a good system or at least one that suits the way you live over a cheap one that could be problematic.frugal October...£41.82 of £40 food shopping spend for the 2 of us!

Hi Mrs richyuk and myself have done this twice over the last 6 years the first time in 2006 there was night storage heaters and a new Baxi 105e with 6 double convector rads, 1 towel rail with thermostatic valves, electronic Heating controls and all copper pipe was £2000, and this year in our new house we had a Baxi 40l duo-tec with 8 double convector rads with thermostatic valves, electronic Heating controls and all copper pipe was £2800. The guys that fitted them were different. One bit off advice I would say is when getting quotes explain that whilst they will order all materials you will pay for them on your credit card direct to the supplier this means not only do you get sec 75 protection on the goods but it stops any mark up and means you only pay for labour which is easier to compare quotes. Be prepared though it is a messy job with chasing all the walls and such it should take about a week to complete depending on how many people are on the job. I live in North Yorkshire0

We had a similar situation but with 11 radiators.
We used mybuilder.com and got loads of companies bidding for the job. Lowest price was around £1850 with a cheap boiler. But we went with a new company who supplied and fitted 11 radiators, a baxi a rated condensing combi with wireless control for £2400. Very pleased with it too.0 -
I don't know if this is of any use to you but a friend got a new boiler from this scheme.

It has probably finished but there might be something similar available.De cluttering Konvert.Getting there

the materials are warrenteed by the manifacturers so why do you need the SOG act protection.
stops any mark up oh you really are "rich" so you want the installer to come out with all his knowledge & expertise & provide a detailed quote giving you a list of all the materials (something you can't do yourself, your installer should have just told you to work it out yourself & then fitted whatever crap you supplied) & then not make any profit, if every customer did this we would all be bust in 6 months any business runs on making a profit & you want to take this away from him, shame on you.
what do you mean chasing all the walls ? you don't have to chase any walls to fit a heating system & if your installer has then i guess you have got what you paid for.I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.
