Thanks very much for this! We're just filling in the forms for a 6 hour delay we had in 2008, if the claim goes through then that will be just shy of £1000 back which would be amazing.

Edit - I used website http://www.flightstats.com to get the details of when the flight left in the end since it was so long ago.

Also, we were given 10,000 flyer miles as way of apology at the time. Do you think this would affect claiming now?

    DON'T GET EXCITED ABOUT THIS!

The crux of this is that even if an airline is at fault for a long delay, they are not going to openly admit fault and pay out because the regulatory authorities do not have enough teeth to make them do so.

Airlines are also not frightened of small claims court threats because their lawyers have advised them of how to make the best of the procedure to avoid a case going to a hearing.

This isn't a windfall that journalists perceive it is going to be.

Journalists should be focusing on how inadequate the enforcement of legislation is and why the regulators don't have enough teeth for enforcement.

That website is fantastic. I looked up an Easyjet flight that I remembered being delayed on back in 2007. However, it turns over it wasn't quite over the 3 hours, so no claim there.
  • Suddenly our 11 hour delay on Friday doesn't seem quite as bad.
  • Does this only apply to eu airlines? i was delayed for 5 hours on a turkish airline which was booked through thomas cook, not sure where i stand?
  • I was delayed for over 12 hours in 2007 and 3 days in 2006! How do you go about claiming. Thanks
  • how can i view a flight delay on flightstats from september , this year ? i cannot find where i need to go , but it is a flight from malaga to gatwick.
  • How do you use the flightstats site to track a historical delay? I was delayed 14hours on Thomas Cook flight from Antalya to Glasgow during July 2008?

I already have a pending claim from earlier this year, the airline knew the plane coming in to take us was faulty but did nothing for three hours, then sent for another to replace it.
I lost over £300 as my connecting flight was missed and also had to pay for a cab at the other end as the car hire was closed.
I don't think I would bother if I had not been out of pocket but have had four serious delays in six trips this year.
All with the same airline from the same airport.
They even took me to a different uk airport on the way home last week as they had informed my local airport the flight would not be coming in and to close up for the night!!!
That meant I was five hours late after being bussed back to the correct airport.
  • just looking at the flightstat page (you may need login)

    http://www.flightstats.com/go/FlightStatus/flightStatusByFlight.do?airline=%28ZB%29+Monarch+Airlines&flightNumber=743&departureDate=2012-09-09&x=26&y=8

To me it doesn't make complete sense. We were delayed for nearly 5 hours , but it doesn't seem to say actual departure time.

Would this delay be suitable for a claim ?
