How would you handle this?

Brought an item on ebay a few days ago. The item rrp is £65 and I won for £42 + £5 postage which is more than fair.

The seller is quite new to ebay, (they have a feedback of 26) and today I have received an email saying that they have sent my item today and the postage was more than they thought plus materials and driving could I pay an additional £3.30 and sent me an invoice for this through paypal also.
I wouldnt have bid that high on the item if I knew then how much the postage was. I was plannning on bidding up to £40 in total so had allready gone over my budget by £7!

Whats the best reply to put without sounding mean? Ive made mistakes with ebay in the past and even lost moneywhen an items gone for 99p and ive worked out the postage wrong :rotfl:But I never asked my buyer for more money!

Just politely decline, mabye say sorry that they underestimated the postage but that you paid the highest you were going to overall.

You won it for £47. That's all you need, or should, pay. Just reply saying that they should take the £3.30 out of the cost of the item & add it to the P&P cost instead, as you limit was £47 in total.

"Hi. When I bought this item, I set a maximum budget of £40 including postage, so have already gone £7 over this. If you'd like to refund the additional £7 so that I feel less bad about going over budget, that would be lovely!"
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

Wouldn't say anything, just decline. Maybe it will make them more careful in the future and calculate the cost of everything before posting.
Mansion TV. Avoid at all cost's :j
  • I wouldnt say asking for more money in general is cheeky. Some people, small sellers arent going to know an exact postage cost but as for this case... Its really up to you what you do...

Totally disagree. I only sell a bit, but use scales and the royal mail site to work out postage before I list. If I get it wrong, that's my mistake not the buyers, and I wouldn't dream of asking them for extra because I can't add up.

Not just cheeky but downright rude as well as far as im concerned. It takes a couple of minutes to get a price for most packages, at the very least a ballpark figure. And lets not forget the seller didnt just underestimate by a bit but more but over half original price more. And to add insult to injury they want money for their petrol as well!!!!!

I wouldn't answer until I had received the item and was happy with it and even then it would be to say thanks for the item but it is the sellers problem that they didn't charge high enough postage.

And don't forget the shoe leather they used walking to the post office counter!!! What a nerve!!! I would hammer their stars once the transaction is complete!!!
