TAX
If you wish to do Mystery Shopping, even just one job, you need to register with the Inland Revenue within 3 month or you could face a fine of £100.
Forms and Guidelines you will need –
Self Employed people with small earnings Guidance - http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/forms/cf10.pdf
To register as Self Employed you will need to either ring the IR (Inland Revenue) ON 08459 15 45 15 or download and send back the form CWF1 (http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/forms/cwf1.pdf )
You may also be required to pay National Insurance at the rate of £2.10 a week, but only if you earn more than £4345 after expenses in any one year THROUGH Self Employment. This means earning more than £4345 in addition to you other employment. If you think you will earn less than £4345 in the financial year, then you can apply for a “Certificate of Small Earnings Exception” which means you will not have to pay NI (National Insurance) Contributions. The Exception application can be found at the end of this document CF10 - http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/forms/cf10.pdf
Information on Self Assessment - http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/sa/selfemp.htm
Normally they get refunded what they spent and £5 for doing it. Therefore am I correct when I say that they would need to give it up because although they have not given their national insurance number and since they have not registered as self employed, that they are breaking the law and if they were to sign up now they could lose some of their benefits? It really isn't worth £100 a year than is it?
They thought that since according to their benefits they were allowed to earn £5 a week without declaring it that they were doing nothing wrong.0 -
I am not up to speed with what you can / cannot earn per week, when in receipt of benefits
BUT with these 4 GAP jobs alone, this weekend they would be "earning" £40 !!
£20 in fees and £20 in expenses0 -

Have told them what you have said and they are concerned! God love them as they do everything by the book but now they are for cancelling the jobs for this weekend as this would have been the most they would have ever earnt. Normally £100 in the year and normally one job every 2 weeks or so.
THANKS for your help thou!0 -
Just thinking I do pigsback, does that mean I am breaking the law too?? :eek:0

Just wondering - as you know, Gap (and others) are now not covering their shoppers under their insurance. Which companies have people managed to get indemnity insurance from, and how much did it cost you? Just coming to the end of my maternity leave, so I'm a bit behind organising it.0
