    HI,

I have my first assigment with grassroots on sat and I just wanted to check that I have to type in the answers to the questionnaire online? Does the questionnaire that they email you appear on the website and you just type in your replies? Bit worried it's going to take ages...

    Thanks,

    BFx

yes you do it all online :) Just input your answers

the first one might take you a while, but the more assignments you do and the more used to the whole process you get ,you may find it wont take you so long :)

Thank you Rachie B - it says I will be reimbursed the £40 when I get paid for doing the MS - can't see anything on the brief about returns?

Also, I work full time - am I registering for Self Employed as well?

Yes. Any job you do where tax is not being deducted at source means you need to register as self-employed and complete annual tax returns. Do it quickly otherwise you might get a fine.

Hi, hope you don't mind me joining in the discussion about tax, but I work part-time and have just had first month's pay from TNS. They have deducted £3.96 tax from earnings of £41.42 automatically. If I advise my wages department at work of this, will they merge the two together do you think?

Hi gkf It's not possible for your wages department to merge the two together - each employer can only deal with their own bit.

I work for several PAYE companies & they all deduct tax at the basic rate, then I submit a tax return each year & I'm refunded the amount I've overpaid.

Have a look at the TNS payslip & see what tax code it states. If it says 503L then they are giving you your full tax allowance. If it says BR then tax is being deducted at basic rate (without any allowances).

Further to the discussions about tax, I've just got my first payslip from tns for 2 visits (fast food) that I did - 2x £5 payment and 2 x £5 vouchers. What I don't understand is I thought the cash was reimbursement for expenses, and the vouchers were your incentive/payment; but I've been taxed, and I didn't think expenses were taxed, as you've already paid income tax and VAT on the money/purchase. Surely for the purposes of tax they could class the cash as reimbursement, and the vouchers as incentives? I don't mind paying tax where it's due but I object to paying it three times over!

I have been taxed at base rate, so they have taken as much as they can :(
  • Help! Am getting very frustrated. trying to upload my receipt photo to GAP but it keeps saying the file is too big. How can I make it smaller? I don't have access to a fax or printer at home so I am struggling with this now!

If you fill in a tax return (maybe because you do self-employed work too), then it'll work itself out and any extra tax you have paid will be reimbursed. If you only work for PAYE companies - phone your tax office and they will let you know what you can do. Sometimes you can split your tax allowance across employers but your tax office will tell you if that's right for you.
  • i applied for grassroots a couple of days ago now, how long does it normally take??
