Advice on poorly stray- update in post 32

Hi everyone -a little update for anyone who is interested - just back from the vets. Sophie has put on 16% of her body weight in a month. Her skin is clear.
She has had her injections today. She has a very sore mouth where she needs to have two teeth out and several infected roots removed where teeth have fallen out which is being done next Tues.
She will also be chipped whilst she is under so she will become officially ours!
She has a very sweet personality. In fact she reminds us of Smudge's brother who we tragically lost on 1st July 2001(yes that was 11 years ago- but we animal lovers never get over it do we - you find a way to live with it).
Funny how life sometimes turns out isn't it?0 -

How is she getting along with Smudge0
-
Sophie would like to be friends but Smudge doesn't - I think she is afraid of her so she hisses and grumbles if Sophie approaches her. So basically Smudge stays upstairs and Sophie stays down.
Smudge comes down twice a day to eat and use her litter tray and then goes back up to sleep. So not ideal but it's manageable . The way we look at it is we didn't deliberately go out and get another cat- we saved a life. And if that makes Smudge a little uncomfortable then on balance it was a price worth paying to give Sophie a second chance.
I am not normally around in the day as I work full time - but when I do get a day off I notice they are both asleep for the entire day - as well as all night! This is the advantage of them both being older cats! So it doesn't really leave a lot of time for confrontation!
I would be interested if any one has any experience of this and whether things are likely to improve or if this is as good as it gets.0 -
Awwwww missed this thread originally and have just worked my way through!
What a lovely thing you've done & so glad that Sophie has found you:) - she's looking absolutely fantastic!
Re them getting on (and especially as they are both Tortie's
) that's a pretty good outcome for such a short space of time!
My tortie loathes other cats (incl my other one:() so I do have problems with mine - they may have a little spat here but it's still early days and they may well start to interact more as they get used to each other / different smells etc.:)Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)

Debt free & determined to stay that way!0 -

I didn't know there was anything different about tortie cats??
Smudge adored her brother who was pure white as of course they had never been separated- since we lost him she has never allowed another cat even in the garden.(although she is a house cat she does have access to the garden - its fully enclosed and she can't jump the fence).
This was why we wouldn't have considered another cat normally and had no intention originally of keeping Sophie. But like I said it hasnt been as bad as it could have been and it sounds like there could be hope for the future!0
