This is really quick as I am at work- thank you so much everyone. She is booked in at vets at 6 tonight-she needs an aids test for a start I have learnt. DD caring for her today. States fleas are dropping off dead- about 18 so far- and she is so tired she can hardly lift her head up. More later . Ps we have named her Sophie.

No, thank you for rescuing her :A

Hope everything goes well at the vets tonight.

Ps. No more posts from you until you show us pictures ;)
  • Back from vets. Blood test result will be back tomorrow. Says she had all the right treatment yesterday and it was designed to last a month. Intestines a bit swollen but thinks that is down to malnutrition. Re the skin - he says best thing is to keep combing her even if it does pull scabs off- get the fleas off ASAP and the quicker the skin will heal.

She has been dewormed today. If blood test ok need to feed her up for a month and keep combing and then go back for her jabs and to have some decayed teeth out.

This is a pic of her last night - followed by a pic of our lovely Smudge sitting in the tortoise food- which is what I am hoping Sophie will look like

She looks adorable and so does Smudge. I am sure you'll find a way to integrate the two so that Sophie can stay with you. I never thought my older cat would accept another, but she did. We took our time and it worked.

Funny how cats just love sitting in tortoise food, mine do too!

Will be looking out for the next instalment. My hat is off to you.
  • Thank you Firefox! You have all been so kind and helpful. Sophie already looks better than in that pic as I got vet to clean her eyes and mouth. He checked her ears and they are clear.

She fell asleep at 10.00 am today and did not wake up til 17.30. She is finally relaxing and sleeping in a normal cat shape circle.

Thank you for the rescue suggestions. I should have said that from the moment the vet told us the RSPCA advice was to dump her back where we found her and if we didn't take her the RSPCA would fetch her from the vets and dump her on our street- there was no question of her going anywhere other than home with us. Apparently the RSPCA class her as a " healthy stray" and they don't take them in but return them to their patch.

I am wondering if that is all true or if they said it to push us into taking her on??

Smudge is still blissfully unaware - we will cross that bridge when we have to - the Felliwell is plugged in!!

Some RSPCA branches are a bit of a nightmare and they will PTS if they are not a healthy stray so it is no win. That is why it's worth phoning round various rescues including the smaller independents if you cannot keep her. If she has a flea allergy then leaving her as a stray is not going to resolve anything, she will only catch them again and get into the same mess!

But hopefully you can keep her, sounds like she made a very wise choice picking you to be her nurse and is already feeling a lot more comfortable with food in her belly and the fleas dying! :D You have to keep posting now, we need to know when she is healed and if she starts to get playful as she recovers.

I take it she is not microchipped?

We found our cat Sidney in our shed after our neighbour dumped him. Luckily he has no fleas but he was full of cat flu and was very wary of us. We fed him outside trying to gain his trust when after a few weeks we noticed he was lame on one paw.

So...called the RSPCA and they came and caught him. Cannot fault them on that - they were there in a few hours. They then took him to the local vet and got him looked over. Gave him anti biotics for the flu and some anti inflamation drops and bought him back saying if we didn't keep him he would be put down.

Now he has constant sinus infections, persistant ear infections and his faw will never be right. However, he is the most loving cat I have ever had the pleasure to meet and I'm lucky we found him.

Well done for taking her in and getting her the treatment she deserves.
  • Hi - well blood test negative for both aids and leukaemia- yay! After lots of combing I believe I may have just caught the last two live fleas.

The difference in her coat is amazing already. A lot of the scabs just came away with the combing. Her fur now feels soft and is starting to shine rather than being stiff like a brillo pad.

She is finally stopping eating when she is full rather than wolfing everything down.

She loves to curl up on your lap when you are grooming her.

She is very tired again tonight. I have bought her one of those cat beds with a hood and a sheepskin lining with a padded cushion in it and she purred and kneaded all over it then curled up and went to sleep!

Both cats look adorable. Sophie must be thanking her lucky stars.
