Is it really good? It looks a bit uncomfortable. Do women really use it?

Yes I think they are really good. If they are positioned correctly you can't feel it.It does look scary from the photos but that is becuase it has the stem on as well. I cut the stem off of mine as that was freaking me out more and leading to panick attacks with me.

I have read this thread with great interest as i bought my 1st Mooncup from Boots this week :D
Unfortunately i will have to wait about 2 weeks before i'll need it, i say unfortunately because i cant wait to try it!!
I have a sensitive question though, i hope you dont mind me asking :o:
Does it not come slip down during the day, or when you are on the loo? I mean, does it stay in place once its in?

    Thanks :o:o

I find it stays where it is during the day and I don't feel it move. After emptying I sometimes find it hard to put in again but I find that after washing it out I rinse it with cold water and don't dry it then inserting it works well. I have noticed though that if I need a number 2 I have to take it out as it does get uncomfortable. That could just be me though :o

    Thanks monkeygirl :)

I was wondering about the No 2 question but was too embarrased to ask :o:o So thanks for that :D

I've been practicing with it and it's really tricky, it seems to big to go in that little place!! I've managed to get it in perfect twice, but i found myself getting really anxious about getting it out. The suction is really strong and a bit alarming.
I keep thinking "how the hell did 2 babies heads come out of there! Oh, yes, with a lot of agony and bleeding, now i remember," lol.:rotfl:

I WILL persist because i just hate the thought of the landfills and pollution i've been causing. ( i wont be watering my plants with it though, ahem _pale_.)

Another tip I found that helped was when you fold it in half instead of it being exact have one bit a little bit higer than the other that seemed to work easier for me that may just be becuase I'm weird though. But I found that if I did it the way they said it wouldn't unfold properly and I'd have to re-do it.Which got me even more anxious

fold it in half? - dont you mean quarters? - theres no way i could get it to fit, if it was only in half

i also agree with the No2 comment - its hard to insert/remove if you are due one - also if your bladder is quite full, it can be hard to remove, so wee first, then remove - prob common sense, really

another thing i dont get, is all this faff with sterilising, etc. - ive prob said this before but it really doesnt need any more cleaning that a good wash - to put it bluntly, im sure you dont sterilise your OH before inserting lol

Lol yeah quarters sorry my brain wasn't working that day.I still found that if you have one edge higher than the other it worked better I got that bit right just not the folding bit. I agree what you mean about the washing of it etc. I give it a good wash but must admit that when I've stop using it I do boil it.

I'll have to suggest boiling my hubby 'bits' before we *ahem* again, lol :rotfl:
Flea, you gave me such a laugh my sides hurt now! Thanks for that :D

I can only imagine that sterilising is necessary because it sits for hours at a time in there, and bacteria could multiply. I sterilised mine in milton fluid before i used it. I think ill be doing that in between periods too to be on safe side.

    xx

My friend uses one and loves it. I used a diaphram for 11 years and it seems that the moon cup is easier to use. A diaphragm needs to be put in exactly right or it can hurt and be ineffective. The mooncup just needs to be inside and the right way up!!! No messing about finding your cervix.

As for inserting it, if it's like a diaphram, pushing the sides together makes it long and thin so no more difficult than a tampon. Also, my diaphragm size didn't change after c section so I don't know why the mooncup size should be different.

I'm looking into the washable pads though. After being pregnant, then breastfeeding for 18 months, I'm not overjoyed at how much pads cost, never mind the effect on the environment!

I got a washable pad from https://www.peeweez.co.uk . They are made using recycled materials and I was really pleased with the one I bought. :T Now that it has been given a trial run I am going to order a few more.
