Wow, I'm gonna get one, the Mooncup sounds great, I've looked on the Boots website, and havent found any, so I shal go into the shop this week and check it out. This makes so much more sense doesnt it.

Thank you everyone for the information

Recently used my mooncup for the first time, and after many years of using tampons, I'm converted. Can't say I found it any more difficult to use. Like tampons it takes a little practice to get the positioning right, but once you've got the hang of it it's fine. As I've got older I've found that on my heaviest days a tampon was not enough protection, and used to wear a towel as well, but with the mooncup I found I got no leakage. Hope that's not too much information!!

I have yet to buy or try one, but it does sound like a great idea. To be honest, my periods are irregular and infrequent (though regular enough for me to suspect I may have one dud ovary) so I don't notice them as an inconvenience as much as some people do.

Having said that, I got a mailing a couple of weeks ago with some coupons for Always Ultra (one for a free pack, one for a pound off a £1.41 pack) and it arrived the day before my period! How's that for targeted marketing? :D:D

Hi ive read all the posts (and been to the web site) and ive got some questions about the Mooncup, I hope you dont mind me asking.
Can you use it while swimming? How does the mooncup cope with heavy days? Is there really no chance of leak if you empty it regually? How well does it 'perform' at night? How long does it last before you have to buy another one?
Sorry for all the questions, as a student I can see how it would save money but I just want to make sure its for me (as I only have £20 to my name right now).:)
I remember when this was just a little website! :money:

    Hi PP_Ayla

Hope I can be of some help;)

I believe you can use a Mooncup just like a tampon & it should be fine for swimming, although I haven't actually tried this myself. I can't see why it wouldn't perfom?
The actual cup is big enough to collect an entire average period in one go, although obviously this wouldn't be hygenic & I'm not advocating it for a second, it does mean that even for heavy days it is very very unlikey to overflow. It forms a seal so the chances of anything just oozing out the sides is less likey than with a tampon I believe. I have average periods (before I got pregnant) so some heavy days & never had a problem.
I found it fantastic at night, much more comfortable & able to cope better than a tampon which I would sometimes need to change on heavy days. In fact, whilst I was getting used to it I just used it at night at first. No problems what so ever.
I believe they last 10 years as long as you look after them properly & sertilize them between each period (might be a bit difficuilt if you are in halls or something but if so I would email the site & ask if it could be cold water sertilized using Miltons fluid rather than boiling, about £1.75 for a big bottle which would last you about 2 years I would guess. Obviously boiling to sterelize would be free)
It comes with a 3 month money back gurantee so if you find it isn't for you you can retun it for a full refund so you shouldn't be out of pocket, except maybe the return postage which wouldn't be much as it is very light.

If you have any doubts or other queries which we can't answer you can contact the website, they are very very helpful & must be used to all sort s of questions:o

If it's any help, I wish I had had one of these when I was a student, would have saved me tons!

swimming is fine, as is wearing overnight, but be prepared for a mini tidal wave, when removing in the morning!

as for steralising, not really necessary, just a good clean in hot soapy water is enough, or if you want to keep it looking shiny(?) then just pop in a mild bleach solution for a couple of hrs

Well ladies...this is my second month and I must say that it's easier this time than last month, though I still find it quite fiddly and ....messy! I did find it was a bit leaky and gets full to the top in the morning and at night.

I really want it to work for me so I'll persevere but dreading using a public loo as I find I really need my sink next to me (you know what I mean without me going into detail don't you?)

I initially bought mine for camping/running weekends as I thought it would be easier when there are no 'facilities' but I doubt it will be......I'll have to see how it goes.

Ahhh...what we women have to do eh?
Just run, run and keep on running!

Oh absolutely! The first thing I've ever done on moving into a house where there was no sink in the loo was have one put in! Cannot understand how anyone lives without one!
