In my opinion dont worry about cost for feminine hygiene its madness. For goodness sake we have enough to deal with without the worry of the costs. Use whatever means is easiest for you and to be honest I would never in this day and age use any product that needed recycling for this particular issue. This is 2005 so do whats easiest for your lifestyle. Woman have enough to deal with without the anxiety of cheap hygiene methods to get us through our cycle which can last for over 40 years. Come on girls saving cash is one thing but sanity and pride is worth so much more. :j Can you honeslty see a man doing this ? I dont think so !!

For me, using the Mooncup is absolutely easier than using tampons. I was ALWAYS forgetting to carry tampons in my handbag and would often have to rush into a shop and buy a pack even though I had some at home. OR I would get to a public loo and realise, thus having to spend a quid on a pack of vending machine ones which were toothpick thin

The good thing about the mooncup is that once it's there, you're never without it. You have to visit the loo less and you don't have to try to discreetly dispose of wrappers and applicators.

Another plus is that a tampon absorbs everything, including the natural lubrication stuff that keeps you all nice and healthy down there. At the end of a period who hasn't removed a 'nearly dry' tampon thus leaving bits of cotton wool behind?

An added bonus is that it's cheaper and it's better for the environment. :)
Just run, run and keep on running!

I think she would be afraid of leaving her bag down, a boy going in it and discovering them. This is embarrassing enough for a girl, but when they're different to everyone else's and possibly used, I think she might not want to take the risk. I'd also suggest washables at home and disposables for school. Although she might be prepared to use washables all the time if she's an exceptionally confident child.

Ah, I went to an all girls school and it was a cardinal sin to go in one another's bags! Mind you I never used to let my bag out of my sight anyway, if I could help it...

If men had periods, I doubt very much that there would be all the embarrasment and 'pride' issues surrounding them. And there wouldn't be those stupid adverts where we are all encouraged to go ice skating etc when it's that time of the month. They'd all be inside with a hot toddy and a hot waterbottle! :D

What's really scary is that my youngest daughter, who is only just 7, has been having a couple of days of very light staining every few months for about half a year now.

I started mine when I was 8 and my oldest daughter started hers at 9. My other daughter is 8 now so I'm expecting it to start soon. Mind you, my oldest daughter who is 11 now is 5ft 6 tall and takes a 36C bra already. I won't be using washable pads with them though, they can stick to the disposable ones for now.

I really think some of this thread should be added to The Vagina Monologues! Maybe I should forward the link to Eve Ensler. :j

i'd have wanted disposables when i was a child, i also hid stained knickers and didn't want mum to wash them.

men seem to have no embarassment when it comes to bodily functions, they urinate in front of each other and even in the street. i don't think a bit of blood would bother them at all. not sure how often they'd wash their pads though lol!

Maybe it's as well it's just us! I doubt I'd be able to cope with both of us having PMT at the same time anyway!
