    I've been Money Tipped!
I didn't have any stitches/swelling etc so had I known about the mooncup when I had my kids, then it would have saved me a fortune.

  • I was concerned about using the mooncup after delivery because of the risk of infection. I found this on their website. It doesn't mention infection but I'm pretty sure that's why it's not recommended.

    Hello,
I've been using a Mooncup very happily for the last year. I'm now expecting our first baby in October, and I wondered if I can use the Mooncup for the bleeding after the birth? I've heard that you shouldn't use tampons, but wondered whether the Mooncup would be OK.

    Best wishes,
    Kelly

    Dear Kelly
I believe that it is not recommended to use internal protection immediately after the birth. It would probably be a bit too tender as well! I would use pads for this post birth bleed and leave your Mooncup until normal periods return, which may not be for a year if you breast feed!

    Good luck, and best wishes
    Su

another reason might be for monitoring the bleeding. you're supposed to report any clots larger than a 50p coin. i was told that's another reason for not using tampons. not that the clots are much of an issue if you read the birth experiences thread, plenty of clots the size of a baby's head :D i haven't used a mooncup, don't know if you'd be able to tell if there were large clots etc. in the contents.

You would be able to tell but I really wouldn't recommend using one. You need to make sure that everything up there can get out as soon as possible, not be 'storing' it up there.(IYKNIM ;))

Can't imagine having to put a mooncup up there after just having a baby

I didn't mean using the Mooncup straight after having a baby! What I meant is, everyone's different and obviously people heal at different rates, and not everyone has stitches, so say 3-4 weeks after birth would probably have been realistic for me to consider something like that? Although I guess not everyone's bleeding lasts the same, as far as I remember mine lasted quite a while

I don't know, it was just a thought. :o I guess the main reason would be infection... Don't think clots would be an issue as, (a) you only get clots the first 10 days or so (right - ?) and you wouldn't consider using a Mooncup so soon, and (b) you'd be able to see the clot anyway.

And also... Seeing that some people brave, ahem, putting other things in there a few weeks after birth :o , why not a plastic cup as well?

I'll shut up now. :o As I said, I was just wondering. :)

(Although you probably would need something that size after birth! )

  • Hi

I believe the keeper and moocup are made of different material, one is silicon and the other is latex although I could be wrong.

TreeHugger Mums sell a range of cloth pads and the Mooncup amongst other things.

  • Can I also suggest that anyone who has the 'smart' idea of rinsing their pads before shoving them in the wash might want to beware of splashing... :o:o:o
