the thing with my mum is she didn't have a washing machine when she was washing nappies, her youngest is 25 now. sometimes she had a twin tub i think it's called, old second hand ones that broke regularly. mostly she washed in the kitchen sink, us girls did a lot of it too. in the sink or the twin tub she used to change the water or do the other stuff first, do the nappies last. i think my washing machine is quite sanitary though, i have no worries about the rest of the wash coming out dirty from a nappy. no more than she worried about washing them in the sink used for peeling veg!52% tight0

:eek:Eeeeew. I don't have a washing up bowl but I would give the kids an old icecream bucket when sick. After rinsing it out I would then pitch it. I must have a weak stomach.:DDon't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia.0 -
My mum used to swill it out with bleach and boiling water then wash it. Can't see the harm! Better for the environment and our pockets!
Actually, come to think of it, that's what DH did when I was pregnant and throwing up more than a dozen times a day. I ate a lot of icecream but no way we'd have that many boxes!May all your dots fall silently to the ground.0 -
Haha Gingham Ribbon something similar happened to me. My mobile was ringing when I was away from my desk so a colleague went into my bag to switch it off cos it was annoying everyone. She didn't mention it but looked embarrassed when she told me she went into my bag to switch the phone off so must have seen them and wondered...!? So many people just wouldn't understand! But I have converted one friend so that's a start...(not her - but still!)
The thing is - they might NOT have been clean (they were at the time, but that's not the point) - used ones during the day at work go into a clear plastic pouch to take home - can you imagine!0 -
I think I might look out for a cheap, washable bag to put inside my handbag for the used ones. At the minute I can just shove them in the nappy bag with the used nappies as I never seem to be out without it!
But I'm going to look for one that isn't see through!!!May all your dots fall silently to the ground.0 -
This came free with the pads, I think it was a silly idea to make it clear though! I have now switched to a little zip up bag from H&M that cost about a pound, it is round with a waterproof inside and just looks like a small makeup bag, with Snoopy on!0

Just wanted to say thank you to everyone who has contributed to this thread - it's because of you guys that I've finally got myself a Mooncup! Without all the info on this thread I probably would never have done it! :j :T
Anyway, it came through the post this morning and am using it already(good timing!). Would say am doing pretty well for my very first time, although was very relieved to read others' comments about cutting most/all of the stem off - whew, not just me then!
It has occured to me BTW, has anyone ever used the Mooncup for post-natal bleeding? Obviously not straight away after birth, but say a couple of weeks later if everything is ok?0 -
I don't think they recommend tampons because of a risk of infection, so perhaps mooncup is the same?May all your dots fall silently to the ground.0
