Tried pairing the wifes Galaxy S3 with the head unit today (an Alpine 126BT unit).
No joy. It finds it, but when i select to pair, it doesn't work, even if i make the device visible to other devices.
She has avast installed if that will make a difference, but i've no idea how to turn it off or remove it to see if this changes anything.
Then in google navigation - when you try & set the current location as home, well i'd say it doesn't work, but i don't know how to do that.
I get to where it says enter an address as your home, but see, our house doesn't have a number - it's a name & the road name is "main road", so there'll be a lot of those. It'd be better if you could set "current location" as home, but i don't know how to do that as it doesn't seem to be working.
Currently with all the things she can't do with the S3, she's wishing she bought the iPhone 4S.

Does this mean that iPhone accepts an address with a name instead of a number, but google maps don't?...

The app that would be used on the iPhone would be tomtom (which seems soooo much easier to use).
There has to be some function to set a "home" on the Galaxy S3, it's just a case of finding it.
It does t have to be google navigation, in fact it'd be better if it wasn't as I believe these use maps which eat your data?
A navigation app where the maps are offline like the tomtom with iPhone would be so much better! Could do withit being free or very cheap too.0

Well, I tried to use address with house name and it works perfectly: Priest House, High Street, Knowle.
I don't understand what your problem with the house name is.
If your 'Home' location is not set, tap and hold it in the list, then edit. Or just use yourself in contacts instead of 'Home' in 'My Places'.
Yes, google maps use mobile data. Although I wouldn't say that they eat a lot of mobile data, you can reduce it by pre-cashing fragments of the map while on wifi . Also, there are many free and pay-for navigation apps with preloaded maps for android (not TomTom though).0

Tomtom is available on Android now although the reviews seem to be mixed.

Another vote for Navfree. Ive even used it in the States. It doesnt use data, the maps are installed on the phone and the app uses the phones gps. Cant help with the bluetooth issue though as i dont use it on my s3Debt free and staying that way! :beer:0

Never had a problem with the default Google maps driven navigation. In my experience the problems tend to be the result of incompetent users. You are best getting an iPhone. Alright so it will take you to the wrong place, but at least it will work right?0

I've never set a home location on Google Maps, but it has one anyway... it just figured it out for itself (did the same for my work) 0 0
